Jun 22, 2010 20:59:31 Yes. Encounters, like Living Forgotten Realms, is a walk-in and play mini-campaign. Each of the 15 weeks of play follows a storyline that is continuous, but also allows anyone to jump in at any point. Each week consists of a single encounter, some are entirely combat, some are (if Season 1 is any indication) entirely a skill challenge, and some are a mixture of the two. Unlike Living Forgotten Realms (and the first season of Encounters), Encounters: Dark Sun is pregenerated characters only (since the setting isn't actually out, yet!).

Moreoever, unlike the previous season of Encounters, you don't need to keep track of XP, and have the possibility of some characters leveling, and others not leveling. Thus, each chapter (consisting of five sessions each) brings the pregen character sheets of a specific level. The first five sessions have the level 1 characters, sessions 6-10 have level 2 characters, and sessions 11-15 have level 3 characters. Whatever session you are sitting in determines your level, not how many sessions you've made it to this season. Much easier on both the players and DMs, and no one should feel left out or left behind. All you miss out on by missing sessions is renown points (used to gain cards you can ONLY use during Encounters sessions), and treasure such as magic items.

I'm pretty sure the OP was already aware of the finder itself, hence mentioning it. Rather, he/she needed information on what to expect once a location is actually found. What kind of expectations he/she should have, and what kind of expectations the players/DMs at such locations will have from a player coming for the first time.
