The link for this month's Eye on Dark Sun seems broken.  Or am I missing something?

Is there any word when the Eye on Dark Sun - Eldaarich will be up?

Thanks!

It was up last week.  I just tried downloading it again and had no problem.

Thanks for the reply!

Darn.  Well I don't know what's happening but whenever I click on it, I get the "link not found" page.

Anyone else have this problem?

Yes, Adobe is up to date.  I can see other PDFs but not this one.  I guess I will have to contact tech support.  Weird.

Thanks!

I've had similar problems in the past... but they are usually resolved quickly. You can contact customer support and raise a ticket. They were helpful with me in the past.

Otherwise, you can post a question on the article discussion forum - that might have a quicker turn around than this forum.

Thanks for all of the replies!

I went to the archive and that link worked for me.  So, I don't know why the content calendar link doesn't, and still doesn't, but I did manage to get to the article.

Thanks!

So is the article any good? Do they give statsand aback story for the SK? Any interesting NPC? What sort of culture influences this city-state?

I'm torn on the article.  It's a good read and I enjoyed it but I'm not sure how much the article prepares a DM to actually run a game near the city state.  It does detail the SK and a back story.  The influence right now is paranoia.  For a long time, the city state has been closed and does no business with anyone else.

I think they intended the idea that it might be opening up a bit to be the adventure hooks.  The paranoia of the city is such that an outsider would be noticed right away and probably killed or captured.  I'm sure that magic or psionics could help in a disguise but the set up doesn't seem to be an easy thing to play at the table.  Maybe if I think about it more, I will have some ideas but right now I'm tired!

I will say that I am surprised that they did an article on this without maps because, while I have to check, I don't think this is on any maps in the 4E books!  I thought the 4E books stuck to the original boxed set, which didn't have Eldaarich in it!

So, while I find it nice and comforting to know that the designers haven't abandoned all things from 2E Dark Sun, without some context, this has to be confusing to those who only have 4E Dark Sun.  Could be me and I will double check on the map when I get home.

The 4e map has an arrow in the Northeast corner pointing in the direction of Eldaarich.  The article only says that it is "far to the north of the Tyr Region, almost out of the reach of dune traders."

You can use this 2e map to give you an idea of where it is in relation to the Tyr Region.

I enjoyed the article.  It gave us the stats for a new SK and his templars.  It detailed the history of the city, personality of the SK, templars.  It also provided information about the surrounding areas and what life is like in the city.  It provided small blurbs for several NPCs, just enough to provide inspiration.

I found it interesting that it mentioned the neighboring city of Kurn.  Which in 2e lore has its own SK.

I think the Dungeon/Dragon article support for Dark Sun has been great and I hope it continues.

I pronounce it El-dar-ick

Anyone ever envision an enthnicity to this city-state?

I'm like an evil fantasy chinese feel to them.

It is nice to see, that Dark Sun gets support. Moreover, it's a good thing that we get another parts of Athas described. It expands options, while players does not have to know information, DM should have back-up plan ot two in his otrhers sleeve.

From what I remeber from second edition, city-states outside of Tyr Region were not based strictly upon one ancient culture or another. They were more fantasy generic, wit theme based on situation inside their walls, than upon cultual roots.

Apart from Seven Cities there are:
Kurn/New Kurn, city far north, ruled by Oronis
Eldaarith, ruled by Diaskinor
New Guistenal, ruled by Dregoth
Ur-Draxa, ruled by the Dragon

Followingcities existed in pastL
Yaramuke, razed by Hamanu
Guistenal, destroyed by combined forces of Sorcerer-Kings
Kalidnay, struck by catastrophe and transported to Ravenloft.
