hopefuly I can get good feedback from the amazing athasians on these board.
I run a game where the PCs have just landed on Athas.
6 players, only one of them has ever played Dark Sun.

To make things a bit more difficult to them at first, all their magic items have temporarily lost their magic, clerics will have to forge a pact with an element before regaining their powers and spell casters will have to spend a few in-game months of studying to find how their spells formulas differ (drawing magical energy from the weave -to- drawing from nature) before their spells are available. I plan to make their magical items 'unmagical' for a few months of in-game time.

They will play during the cleansing war, and will be instrumental in killing Irikos.

another thing: Nibenay has finished his task, but there's a gnome PC. They'll be near bodach.. not too too far away from Nibenay the city...

another other thing:They made their way to Athas via a magical item similar to the planar gate but more powerful in that it can also travel through time(though on athas, not farther in time from when the item was created) two keys control the item. one controls the destination, the other the time. They came to Athas using only one key, but because of the story, they'll want to seek out the other one and go back home before the Athasians began going to Faerun and doing some dirty athasian things. I'm thinking MAYBE Nibenay has the key that controls time somewhere in his palace.

PCs are lvl9 but CRs a bit more powerful because I gave each of them some item/power that is a little more powerful then normal.

I'm hoping someone can help me. If any of you have ever had PCs from another plane come to athas, I'd love to have any input into how your story went. I would also appreciate some tips on how to run the game.

Right now I'm thinking they'll get captured, then their caravan gets attacked by elves or thri kreen, then they walk around in the desert for a while before coming upon a small fortified villa where they'll be captured by the residents. The noble will be Agis-like and after spending a few months learning enough of the language, maybe getting their spell casting abilities back, they will venture out on their own, with their magical items finally 'magical' again.

I guess what I'm asking is for help to make sure that they get the best dark sun experience possible with the story that I have. I'm exensively familiar with the setting, but most games I've run in dark sun, the PCs were athasians and they were familiar with the setting.

Thanks in advance!!!!

If your PCs are playing during the cleansing wars the world will be more green and much less desert. You might want to go with a more traditional setup with an Athasian twist instead of caravan/Elven raiders/Thri-kreen. Maybe they are captured by a minor defiler warlord or pressed into service of a non human or rebel army. Good luck.

thanks for the info. I especialy like the idea of being pressed into service of a non human or rebel army.

Actually since it's somewhat during the middle of the war, I thought there would be patches of land that would have been defiled and others still verdant. The sea of silt is there so I imagined an area near Bodach, near the sea where the land was mostly defiled or desert-like, but that most people know that there are still huge plains and forests somewhere else so aren't TOO worried ecologicaly yet. Androponis would be pursuing his mission still so most elf communities ould have become nomad by now. But maybe an attack by thri kreens would be better. They've never faced these critters yet...
