I am probably going to be playing a dark sun game soon and need to know, what is the fey wild like in the Dark Sun campaign setting? Thanks to whoever answers this.

The feywild as such does not exist in Dark Sun due to the prohibition on planar travel. Creatures normally connected with the feywild are largely extinct. The few parts of the feywild that still lingers are protected by eladrin magic and is referenced in folk lore as "The Land Within the Wind", they are the glittering cupolas and minarets that can sometimes be glimpsed in mirages.

So they act kind of like a small oasis?

I'd say the reverse based on the few tidbits included in the new setting books. The Feywild is accessible, but that Feywild is the portion that is Dark Sun-specific. In the new 4e setting that portion has been ravaged during the wars of ages past, with destruction ongoing to this day through defiling magic. Eladrin are it's last inhabitants and caretakers.

It's become a fractured plane, made of pockets, so the Feywild is truly slowly disappearing. The pockets that are known as The Land Within the Wind (sic?) are inhabited, the rest is desolate and lifeless, and probably more difficult to reach, since magic and other supernatural energies are what keep passages to a plane open. A dead plane pocket would be difficult to reach.

As to what it looks like...I've imagined the occupied pockets are lame but still awesome compared to Athas.

But the abandonned, war-ravaged pockets have: milder temperatures than for Athas; a sun harkening back to an earlier, gentler time; cracked-mud ground; few structures, all ruined; corpses of formerly living, motile crystal tree-like plants (treants or the likes) littering the ground in places; ruined engines of war; sun-bleached bodies.
And, of course, windless, dead silence.

Feywild seemed to be shoe horned into Dark Sun. I'm reminded of the Feywild in the 4e Book "Tomb of Horrors: Super Adventure". They describe them as abandoned cities in hidden pockets.

One of the designers in a podcast mentioned the Eladrin taking the role of Djjin/Genies in Dark Sun. Mirages created the idea that Mirages were Djjin Cities. So think the Feywild is like that scene from Alladin where he goes to try and recover the Lamp from the cave.

Though fairly 2E traditionalist, I came to accept and even embrace the 4E eladrin/fey/Lands Within the Wind narrative. One of my PCs came from the Witchgrove and a decent plot thread involving him built from the Dragon (or Dungeon?) article "The Mahindrazal" (though it needed a lot of alteration/development).

Fey like Sand Brides and Belgoi fit well into Dark Sun, I think.

I was told by a friend that Sand Brides and Belgoi had been in the setting already. They just reshaped their background to be Fae.

I'm probably even worse of a 2e Dark Sun traditionalist (though, I LOVE a lot of the mechanical aspects of 4th)  But, I have made it clear that I dislike (okay, hate) the POL/World Axis content.  But, whatever.  I believe there are stats for Sand Brides and Belgoi indeed floating around older books.  Not to mention, I think they were even in the Dragon magazine conversion by Paizo back in '05-ish.

Everyone's younger than me if indeed no one's sure there ever were 2e stats for these monsters.

Yes, there were.

The stats for the Sand Bride & Belgoi are in the current 4e book, notably the Dark Sun Creature Catalogue.

I haven't read much of the related Dark Sun fiction, but in my own campaign I've been using their brief forays into the Land Within the Wind as a "break" from the usual grim nature. Notably, I've been using the Fools Grove adventure which is terribly silly (Flail-eyed large snails & things like the Campestris
[ "These fungal creatures with creepy old-man faces release spores that slow creatures. The happy-go-lucky creatures also sing horrible parodies of nursery rhymes in a nasal falsetto, and any DM worth his or her salt will clearly roleplay this to the fullest."] )

I wasn't really into the concept at first, but as with many things which "shouldn't be in Athas" I think the lack of fit can be really interesting.

One of the things that the Feywild / Lands Within the Wind can do is to highlight a sense of loss. Another they can do is to deliver on the classic Dark Sun moment: something that should be pure and full of hope is in fact corrupted and decaying. We tried to do that in the Ashes of Athas adventure AOA5-2 Within the Wind.

Show

In the adventure, the Eladrin are a far too proud race. As a form of protection they have withdrawn from and rejected the outside world. This has caused their race to falter, as their culture becomes based on an increasingly false understanding of what is right and how society should operate. What could be a paradise is instead a veil, hiding many decadent flaws.

The PCs have many dangers in interacting with the Eladrin, including that they represent the outside world (and should therefore be disposed of). Even with a tentative alliance, there are many taboo subjects - saying the wrong thing can be very dangerous.

In the adventure we also gave the Lands Within the Wind an important artifact to safeguard and ancient foes who had cause to be there as well.
