Half Orcs of Athas or as I call them Orthogs

Dec 26, 2010 23:21:58 ok so I have a player in my Dark Sun Campaign and he wishes to play a Half Orc Barbarian with the Gladiator theme, so I've Decided To allow half orcs by saying that they are a slave race. Breed from Tareks and human slave stocks. Called Orthogs

is this a reasonable explanation for the half orc on Athas?

Dec 27, 2010 2:04:37 I was trying to come up with something that sounded catchy like "Muls" for half dwarf or "Goliaths" Half-Giants or even "Dray" for Dragonborn.... kinda trying to keep with the naming of races on Athas.

Dec 27, 2010 3:06:28 And yet there are still Half-Elves. Keep in mind that the terms Goliath and Dragonborn have only been introduced this year, for the last 17 years it's always been Half-Giant and for 12 years Dray. Not everything needs to have a new name.

P.S. Orthogs sounds like warthogs, or some kind of orthodontic (or orthopedic) clogs.

Dec 28, 2010 14:16:05 I do think it's a reasonable explanation, though I would pick a name that sounded closer to "Tarek" to keep with the feel of the settings.

Additionally, there are all sorts of deadly things bred for short lives in the gladiatorial pits.. and with the inclusion of Sunwarping in 4th Edition, you can justify all kinds of oddness.
