So my group is composed of six well rounded stratigic level 8 players who basicly work for a templar of Urik and have their adventures around the area, I am running out of encounter ideas until my final confrontation at around level 10 where I am planning on giving them a chance to rebel and escape, However I also am trying to keep the feel of the terain around Urik and use only approprate encounters. Can anyone sugest some random encounters or even some planned ones that fit the local area and theme of working with a templar against your will

Ugh, random encounters?  This is D&D, story driven combat...not final fantasy 2 video game.

A group of monster hunters employed by another Templar or Hamanau himself seek to charge a toll for your party to go thru their territory.

Although they capture monsters for use in the gladiatorial games, they're not above extortion and slaving.  They carry very high favor so killing them is not a wise decision...well at least not all of them.

They're lead by a savy half-elf named Jarek that talks with a strong Australian accent

Or

Perhaps while on patrol they bump into a Tyrian adventuring party on their way to Raam.  They peacefully share a drink and stories but the truth slips out that they are trying to avoid the patrols from Urik that have been tailing them, waiting for more reinforcements before striking.  Does your party capture them and take the credit, or help them run and take the rap?

Also, finding 'level appropriate' monsters should not be hard for anyone with DDI....use the monster builder.  It will do alot of the work for you, adjusting hp/attack/dmg to normalized values, you just need to pick balanced abilities (try borrowing from other monsters to make something).

If you are no good at making your own monsters, just post here what type of monsters/roles you are looking for and I'm sure plenty of people would enjoy posting their creations for you to use.

Thanks for the reply Diggles, yea I am not the best with making my own monsters, and I do have story driven stuff as well, I have had them do a number of dirty work things involving slaying of children and recaptureing slaves... I wanted to test their morals, they almost killed eachother over the killing children issue; split party. But what I am doing is I try to find monsters/encounters that GEOGRAPHICLY to the area around Urik, I mean having a Silt elemental or creatures found in the forrest ridge area really don't belong near Urik.

Also just to give you guys an Idea oh what they have faced before I had a Elevn Raiding party attack them as they came up on a merchant party going away from urik, they at the time were on their way to track down slaves and wanted to check if they were among the caravan, It was fun lots of participants in that battle. Another was drawn from a Human Slaver they pissed off because they brought back two less slaves than they were supossed to (they forgot to bring enough provisions to feed the captives as well as themselves for the journy back) so he had halfling assassins target them, played a little cat and mouse game with them over a few days in the dessert culminating in a battle that drew the attention of a sand worm (think a purple worm but reskinned and deleveld)

So Its not that I am short on fights its just that during wasteland travel its boring just to consume survival days and mabye some endurance checks or a massive skill challenge I like to break up the menotony of travel with a fight or three and I'm running low on ideas that fit geographicly as well as without seeming completly random, a reason for the Worm idea was that the sound and vibrations of the fight happened to attract it. I actualy dont just want ffighting for fighting sake sadly I could go without massive fighting and do more sory skill challenges however half the group I DM for never played D&D before and treat 4e more of a combat tactics exorsise so I try to appeal to both my RPing group members and my beat it till it dies members
