| #1sithloreSep 06, 2010 11:10:38 | So here's my campaign: My players begin in the free city of Tyr. One is a human barbarian (gladiator), one a half-orc ranger (wasteland nomad, race permitted) and the other a dragonborn paladin (templar, class permitted). My Dray player was once a soldier that was elevated to the position of templar, but he couldn't accept the corruption of his job. Seeing the purity of his soul, a forgotten god chose him to bring back justice and overthrow the sorcerer-king by giving him access to the divine power source, while not directly informing him with what he should do with his new powers (kinda follow your heart to do the right thing). However, this was noticed by the Sorcerer-King Nibeney, who do not want to see divine power on Athas, so he sent thugs to eliminate my player. In our first adventure, the PC's will be in a tavern in the slums of Tyr, when attacked by thugs. If the successfully defeat and interregotate them, they will be dirrected to a gladiator master that will give them more info if they do a fight for him in the arena, after what he will tell them to go see the merchant House Dorvon, from wich came the contract. So what should I do after that? |

(the over all story / plot) or are you sand boxing (allowing the character backgrounds and actions move the story) if you are telling an overall story knowing you general idea would help us help you. if you are sand boxing, then knowing the character backgrounds and the choices they have made would give us an idea of the direction they are going. | #3sithloreSep 06, 2010 12:49:05 | a bit of the two. The big idea is that Nibenay want to bring a new age for Athas and become kinda a God who rules all over it, so that's why he must destroy my player, not wanting any interference from any real god. Also, Nibenay will of course be at war with the other Sorcerer-Kings. The background of my PC's are what'S gonna determine how this scenario unfold. As I said, there'S a nomad, a gladiator and a templar. The nomad is an Half-Orc, a hybrid of the human race and orc race, wich in my campaign is kinda a savage people that doesn't like to interract with the other races. So far, my player didn't find why his character would want to go in a city, but he will come up with the idea soon he said. The templar is like I said an ex-soldier turned templar turned paladin, who kinda try to use his new-found powers to do the right thing in a world of corruption. The gladiator is a human who was raised in slavery alonside Muls, and he was taught how to fight by them. After the dead of King Kalak, he found himself a free man but with no real knowledge of the world except how to fight, so he kinda stick with his gladiator/mercenary lifestyle. So like you can see, I have a big plot but I will also allow the backgrounds and actions of my players decide how the story unfold (I use the branching system of DMG2). There is also a slight possibility that at the end of their first adventure, the players doesn't discover that the contract came from House Dorvon. Of course, then, the next adventure will be to continue to search for informations. |
| #4DuskweaverSep 06, 2010 13:32:41 | My Dray player was once a soldier that was elevated to the position of templar, but he couldn't accept the corruption of his job ... the Sorcerer-King Nibeney If this dray is/was a templar of Nibenay, then he'd have to be a 'she'. Nibenay's templars are exclusively female. The nomad is an Half-Orc, a hybrid of the human race and orc race, wich in my campaign is kinda a savage people that doesn't like to interract with the other races. Tarek are explicitly the 'orcs' of Athas, so I suggest simply making this character a half-tarek, rather than trying to shoehorn another 'orc' race into the setting. "A savage people that doesn't like to interact with the other races" is pretty much the definition of the tarek. |
| #5sir_sparhawkSep 07, 2010 18:24:25 | I have a problem with the whole "divine power" thing. I'm a Dark Sun purist so that part is the only thing I don't like. However I would like the idea of a "false god" rather than a "forgotten god." Maybe unknowingly by your character, Nibenay has him duped and furthering Nibenay's plans from the beginning. It would be a memorable event when the character suddenly learns he's been working for Nibenay the entire time. |
| #6sirkaikillahSep 07, 2010 23:04:16 | Instead of just killing the Pc, maybe Nibenay would like to capture him and figure how to tap into this "new" power source and truly become a GOD!!! I would have an intermediary agent, a Nibenay templar bride, to hire thugs in Tyr. If I were a sorcerer-king, I would diffenetly make a templar, have a templar, force another templar to bring in this "..., so called divine agent." I'm in the camp of no divine powers in DS, but if your going to go there, go big and make it a major part of the campaign, good job. Have fun and good luck. ![]() PS here is a Gulgan war party I made for my campaign. I warn you this is not for every one and are only rough drafts. I will have the headhunters go and continue attacking unconcious Pcs until challenged, attacked or the Pc is dead and they can collect the head. It is a level 1 encounter for 5 Pc. | #7sithloreSep 08, 2010 10:16:09 | thx for all your advices! I was also trying to bring Dregoth into the game. The idea of him being the false god giving my player his power is good, since he's also a dragonborn. And since Nibenay is also tring to become a god (bringing a new age to Athas), it's normal he wants to confront my player. Thx all :P |
| #8sithloreSep 08, 2010 10:21:03 | So here's the plot: Dregoth, still doing experiments to become a god, decided to infuse a dray with divine energy he drained from the astral sea, chosing a dray since they were his first prototype to ascend to godhood. Sensing this sudden new kind of energy, Nibenay order one of his High Consort to bring the being possessing this energy dead or alive for observation. The High consort go to Tyr and hire House Tsalaxa to do the work. To make sure his tract are covered, Tsalaxa shapechange in David Dorvon and go hire the Toothcutters through a Gladiator owner named Anaroch. Then, the thugs go find my player. How's that? |
