How big is a Silt Schooner?

My PCs are currently working for a merchant company in Balic, and in the next few sessions I want to have them guarding a silt vessel when they run into a fight with some Giants while en route to their destination.

The Balic backgrounds section mentions fleets of silt schooners, but doesn't provide any particular stats.

If I were to hazard a guess I'd assume they were 70-80 feet long, possibly flat bottomed, with two masts. although I don't have any kind of info to back that up.

Anyone know anything more concrete?

take a look at page124 of the campaign setting "silt Skimmer" it should give you a good idea on size

here's the general details
5 squares by 10 squares  or about 25 feet wide 50 fee long with 10 foot wheels
it can make its way through silt or dust sinks up to 15 feet deep

so which is bigger a schooner or a skimmer?

Schooners tend to run between 40 ft long to well over 200 ft, the latter being those with steel hulls. I would liken Balican silt schooners to be as sleek and fast as the North-American fishing schooners of the early 20th century, which were the fastest and largest of their day @ about 127 ft long with a crew of 20. Of course the ships were built for sea travel and silt is far less buoyant as water. So I would start at 120 ft and work down from there. Schooners have 2 or more sails rigged to fore-and-aft masts.

the perfect schooner example for Silt travel would be the following ...
Nonsuch: Schooner; Length: 86 ft; Beam: 21 ft; Depth of hold: 9 ft; Comp.: 61; Armament: 14 guns; Baltimore, Maryland, United States; 1812

The Schooner Nonsuch started her career as a privateer in the War of 1812 and was bought by the U.S. Navy in December 1812. She was used in several active roles by the U.S. Navy until December 1825. The Nonsuch was sold and broken up in 1826.

Hope that helps.

The was a 2e supplement, Of Ships and Sea, that I have and reference for my group, but it has been a while since they dared go back out in the Sea of Silt!  -a bad run in with Giants-

I use it primarily for different ship sizes, speeds, and other general information.  Obviously you need to make some 4e adjustments, but a great reference either way.

IIRC (maybe I don't) there were two silt boats in that section.

For reference, a truck trailer is about 50 ft long, 10 ft high and wide.  So that silt merchantman is like moving two trucks side-by-side.  Now you can design a road full of potholes and cover it in a layer of silt.

Hahaha.  You dumb bastard.  That's not a schooner, it's a sail boat.

The pages on trade and war schooners from the Athasian Emporium supplement
sites.google.com/site/mgbeach/files/Page...

The "face" entry on the stat block is the length x width of the ship.  Trade schooner says 60'x20' and war says 80'x20'
