| #1Cyber-DaveJan 17, 2011 15:02:08 | The title says it all... in fact, I wish that had a Dark Sun line of miniatures period. |
| #2TectuktitlayJan 17, 2011 17:10:28 | Agreed, and how. They're moving towards specialty boxed sets? Okay, that works. Give us a few Dark Sun sets. One with the Dragon of Tyr and some other iconic NPCs (like, oh, say, the sorcerer-monarchs). Secondly, make one with a bunch of PCs of various combinations of races, classes, iconic weaponrys and the dress of various city-states. Finally, one with a handful of core iconic creatures you're likely to fight. Not going to happen, I know. Nevertheless, it would be very nice to have. |
| #3tentagilJan 17, 2011 17:14:38 | Hell, I'd happily buy a new People of the Land style boxset. Most of the races can be covered with repaints, Thri-Kreen, ad few elves and humans in darksun style clothes. Come up with a new mold for the Muls maybe. I'd buy several. Then another with the Dragon and the Sorc-Kings, again only the Dragon need be a new mold, the others could likely be repaints. |
| #4fromost_the_grimm_02Jan 17, 2011 18:27:03 | I'll fourth that, on the oh-so-slim chance someone from WotC accidentally stumbes on the fact that people are actually playing Dark Sun. New thri-kreen figures representative of the new 4E take on the race would be awesome ... and let's face it, no current line has enough bald dwarves or tall, wind-swept elves to suit our needs. |
| #5mouthymercJan 17, 2011 20:52:22 | If you can track it down, the Sorcerers Dragon from the 4th dragon series from McFarlane Toys is a good rendition.![]() ![]() ![]() |
| #6Cyber-DaveJan 17, 2011 20:57:51 | Do you have any idea what its base size is? |
| #7mouthymercJan 17, 2011 21:03:05 | Do you have any idea what its base size is? It is described as about 8 1/4 " high so if I had to guess from the dimensions of the pic I'd say 4". Might be 5". |
| #8Cyber-DaveJan 17, 2011 21:12:53 | Huh. It is pretty much perfect. Originally I had planned to use the colossal red dragon miniature. I figured having a foot tall miniature would really get across how huge the dragon of tyre is (and I would run the encounter giving it a 5/6 by 5/6 square base. But I can't find one for sale for less than 300 dollars. That picture you posted, however, looks much more like the dragon of tyre. I would be happy running the encounter with that, even if it is a little smaller. It should still have a base of at least 4 by 4 squares by the looks of it. Now I just have to find a store that sells it. Amazon.com seems to... but Amazon.ca doesn't. Uggggh. |
| #9GrummoreJan 18, 2011 7:54:23 | Are they going to do new miniatures? I mean WotC ? Is that what you are saying? |
| #10mgbeachJan 18, 2011 7:57:16 | wow, I think I'm going to have to order that McFarlane dragon asap. That is perfect! Thanks for the heads up. |
| #11AlphastreamJan 18, 2011 15:31:13 | There are a couple of other McFarlane dragons that can work. The Fossil dragon is a good Dregoth, for example. |
| #12tentagilJan 18, 2011 22:13:51 | I've got me a Dragon of Tyr now. Much thanks for that suggestion. Now if only there were more options for muls out there. I've seen a few metal minis that would work, but I'm crap at painting them and I keep all my minis in big bins now so metals ones tend to need a bit more protection. Still might break down and buy some soon or later. |

| #14Cyber-DaveJan 19, 2011 9:51:45 | God. Finding that dargon in Canada is a pain in the backside. I checked a whole bunch of different shops and couldn't find it anywhere. I think soon I am going to have to breakdown and buy it from the internet. Only problem is, I wanted a chance to see it in real life first. While it looks perfect, I am worried that it will not compare in size to things like Orcus or the Gargantuan Blue Dragon. |
| #15positronicaJan 20, 2011 9:37:51 | I have quite a few of the McFarlane dragons. They're all the right size to use as gargantuan creatures. Making a base is easy... Just print out a 4" x 4" black square and tape or glue it on top of a piece of cardboard. I then usually use double sided tape to stick the dragon's feet to the base for that encounter. A lot of the McFarlane dragons come with their own irregular shaped terrain base, however they're all detachable, so its easy to temporarily put them on your own homemade 4" x 4" base in-case the sculpted base that came with the dragon is a little bigger than 4" x 4". Also note, the Fossile Dragon pictured above is a nice model, and I've used it quite a bit, however it has a few issues. The biggest is that the wings are detachable and they don't fit in place very well at all. I've heard the complaint from multiple people who have it. Ultimately I had to drill my own holes for copper pins and then glue the wings in a position that I wanted them. Also, the dragon is articulated in a few different spots, and the weight of its own body will cause it to tip over if its not placed just right. Again, you may have to do some glueing it you plan on using it a lot. On the plus side, though, the firey mane that it has is removable (with some work) and the bones of the head and neck underneath are fully modelled and painted. Personally I think it makes a much better looking dracolich with the fire removed. |
| #16beej_silverJan 20, 2011 11:11:14 | I actually bought myself a Fossil dragon a few months back at a local toy convention specifically for Dregoth. XD And it was a real bargain, too (IMO). Got it for 600 PhP, or just a little above US$13.![]() The base is not rectangular, of course, but it's roughly 7"x10", which is a little too big for D&D. However, he's easy enough to detach from the base, and I think he'll fit in a new 4"x4" base if I place him upright. I just haven't gone around to doing it yet, because my Dark Sun players are only level 13. Oh, and I hate those wings. It really looks artificial and...plastic (yes, yes, I know that's what it's made of, but the rest of the figure is a lot more rugged... >.>) Now that other dragon... @__@ I really like how it looks, and it does look more like Borys especially when compared with the colossal red. I hope I find that in the next toycon. XD |
