What 4E race/class combos do you think would make for the absolute most iconic Dark Sun party?

Goliath Barbarian, Wasteland Nomad.
Thri-Kreen Battlemind, Wilder.

I'd say

Thri-Kreen Marauder Ranger, Wilder
Goliath Earthstrength Warden

The rest as rollawaythestone said.

If one tries to avoid the cliché that the Prism Pentad has become due to its popularity...

Four normal characters and a quasi-unique, weird fifth one, from the few following examples:

Mul martial leader (Warlord)
- Wasteland Nomad theme
- desert dweller, former head of a slave tribe
- aiming for Sand Reaver path

Dwarf psionic defender (Battlemind)
- Wilder theme
- from a dwarven community
- aiming for Resurgent Wilder path

Human arcane defender (Swordmage)
- Veiled Alliance theme
- nobleman from the city
- aiming for Veiled Guardian path

Half-elf martial striker (Rogue)
- Minstrel theme
- city-bound elf, from the Bard's Quarter
- aiming at Arms-Troumbadour path

Revenant striker (Assassin-Rogue hybrid)
- Templar theme
- used as an assassin by the templars, until the character starts to remember his former life, and changes who he fights for
- access to various Rogue, Assassin, Revenant, and Hybrid feats and paths, and feats from the Art of the Kill article in Dragon 373

Shardmind psionic controller (Psion)
- Noble Adept theme
- trained in the Way millennia ago during the height of the art, your crimes - imagined or real - got your soul trapped through bondage to a Guardian Sphere (a floating obsidian orb serving as a guardian, in ages past), and after centuries of dormancy in which you lived in your dreams the sphere failed and shattered, and your soul recorportated from the fabric of the sphere, creating a one-of-a-kind being made of obsidian
- aiming for Dreamwalker path

Half giant fighter/pit fighter, gladiator theme(you maybe could mc into barbarian).

Elf defiler Warlock(SK pact)/multi class psion/Master defiler, Templar theme and working on dragon ED(make sure to pick up psionic defiling and psion power swaps).

Half elf bard Athasian minstrel theme, take the unwelcomed guess PP, pick up a few posion powers and feats.

Human Psion Nobel theme.

Mul primal class with slave tribe theme, or a Mul ranger or warlod with the freeded salved theme.

These are characters from some fiction I've got running through the back of my mind right now.

Dwarf enlightened ardent
  • Dune trader.

  • Former scion of a destroyed merchant house looking for redemption having taken revenge on his enemies leaving him feeling without a purpose.

Half-elf tempest fighter
  • Gladiator.

  • Escaped gladiator taken under the dwarf's wing learning to curb his violent tendencies in order to survive in "civilization".

  • Uses twin tortoise blades.

Changeling guardian druid
  • Primal guardian.

  • Pyreen that has gone into the world to look into its mysteries and to stop the corruption of it where he can.

  • He found the dwarf at his lowest, after he had exacted his revenge, and has stayed with him to help him regain his honour.

Warforged brawny rogue
  • Wasteland nomad.

  • Former tiefling trapped in the body of a golem after uncovering the tomb of an ancient necromancer.  The necromancer stole his body and he is after him to get it back.

  • He is still becoming accustomed to being trapped in the golem's body.  He was able to animate the golem through his own will.

Revenant pursuing avenger
  • Wilder.

  • One of the original soldiers that trapped the necromancer.  His soul was put into his sword and left with his body to guard against the necromancer escaping.  Once the necromancer escaped, he resurrected and now carries his sword with the purpose of putting down the necromancer for good.

  • Rising in this time has released a psionic force within him.
