| #1merchant_of_shadowsDec 08, 2009 6:24:57 | Im designing a bulette encounter for my players that involve the bullette making deadly skirmishes from the sea of silt, while the players are trying to defend themselves both from the beast's jaws and fangs and from the threat of being pushed into the silt from the obsidian rocks they will be standing on. Their main weapons for attacking will be nets and harpoons that will help them somehow keep the beast at range... This is a bit opposite to what those tools are made for, but they would not use the impaled harpoons to pull the beast towards them, rather than that they will spread out in a large circle around the beast and try to keep it from approaching any of them while they take any chance for clean attack on it that they have. Alternatively they might try to pull it within reach of the strangler vine nearby or to slam it into the razor sharp obsidian chunks. The bullette is much higher level than them so just hitting in in melee until it dies is hardly an option. To keep it from being just an ordinary bullette and to make it more in touch with the Dark Sun feel, I'd like to give it some psionic abilitites. I don't want an abilities that just deal damage, but ones that keep my players on their toes during the fight and at the same time are somewhat logical for the creature to develop while living in the Athasian environment. Any suggestions? |

The bulette would be immune to the difficult terrain. The terrain could be psionically pulverized rock, caused by a psychic scream. It allows the bulette to overtake pray. Or the burst might be even more powerful: rendering everyone prone and leaving a zone of difficult terrain in the burst. |

For halfway through the fight (such as when bloodied): a power that relieves the Bullette of all conditions, removes all restraining nets, and maybe even pushes back all adjacent players. 2. Force-push-like power that knocks players into the strangler vine, pulls them into the silt if they're too close, makes them lose their footing, or reactively throws nets or spears back again at the players. 3. Camoflage in the silt 4. dominating or piercing bark/screech/aura "Controller"-like powers will probably make the encounter more interesting/challenging. |
