Hey guys, my players are now level 18 and they are planning in the near future to kill Tectuktitlay of Draj. (One of the character got problems earlier with his moon priests, one is a warlord who wants to become a Hordemaster and another is a templar secretly working to kill his king).

I'm just wondering if you have ideas how to kill this one in a original way. I mean... I know that in the Prism Pentad he dies in a another but...

I'm open to ideas and I was thinking something about couatls because Draj take these feathered snakes for banners...

If you have a cool idea in the same pattern as the Verdant Passage I would be excited to read them ! If they are different, it'll be the same!

Thanks in advance

Big courtyard, big flat step pyramid.

I think you're required by law to have them charge across the lawn of Two Moon City under fire from Tectuktitlay's bolts from the sky and fight a climatic duel on the top of the pyramid then fall down the pyramid into the arena.

Would be pretty epic, something like that could be the final scene of the battle... I'm searching for something which could ''break'' the shields and defenses of a Sorcerer's King to assure that you could battle him.

If you've used the Greatbow you know that 20 squares is a massive, massive range.  Anyone who played the Seeker pregen in Lost Cistern of Aravek probably used about 3 move actions for the entire module.  Tectuktitlay has one melee ability, a few that boost allies, the rest are Ranged 20 attacks.  Hell, he can do 2 ranged 20 attacks per round.  Add this to the Jasuan Temple Guards that impede movement, the level 19 elite Obsidian Golems that protect him and the canon, and of course the dozens of crunchy minions that tend to populate large open areas, and you have quite a slog through the 100 feet Tectuktitlay can attack from.  I would say that getting to him could be an encounter in and of itself.  And you know that fat bastard can teleport from the top of his pyramid or that he's got some kind of Diablo Hellforge thing where he can only be killed upon his blood soaked altar.

Any striker worth his epic salt can make short work of Tectuktitlay.  It's getting to his squishy artillery ass that's the trick.

Would be great, I was thinking about a Obsidian/Crystal Skull to weaken him or the Smoking Mirror of the Aztec myth.

Hmmm, one big encounter ? Could be great !

I can only be killed with a bonk to the head by the Dark Lens.  Sorry.  Get the Lens, drop it on me...

Poor Tectuktitlay...he always gets the hate after the death of Kalak. Why doesn't anyone ever try go kill Daskinor or Hammanu? You could probably rouse the population of Raam to kill Abalach-Re. Nope, ol' Tec always gets the deathwish.

Y'know, every time Tec's death is brought up, the only thing I can think of is this scene from The Princess Bride...

Vizzini:  "Finish him, finish him.  Your way."
Fezzik:  "Oh good, my way.  Thank you, Vizzini."  *beat*  "What's my way?"
Vizzini:  "Pick up one of those rocks.  Get behind a boulder.  In a few minutes, the man in black will come running around the bend.  The minute his head is in view, HIT IT WITH THE ROCK!"
Fezzik:  "My way's not very sportsmanlike."

Face-down in two inches of water ought to do it.  But how do you KEEP him there?

Are your players actually "planning" to assassinate a sorcerer-king, or are they just talking about it?
If the former, listen in and counter-plan.  Even at a lowly L22, Tectuktitlay is a few thousand years old and an old hand at planning ahead.  Read everything you can get your hands on about him and Draj, and work out his defences.

Dirty trick: he hears the PCs are coming for him and decides he won't wait around in his inner sanctum.  Instead he attacks them near their base.  Especially good if he really DOES have to be hit in the head with a Dark Lens - because the PCs won't have it with them yet!

A clever PC would think that flight would allow him to bypass the hundreds of minions, get around the golem guards, and just land near Tectuctitlay and his highest priests for a Boss Fight.  But he is an artillery and SOMEBODY will see the PCs coming and being knocked Prone is really tough on high-altitude fliers and he who shoots first may also shoot last...

Yes, they're really planning to do it really soon. They turned lvl 19 last weekend, I'm planning to let them find one artefact similar to the heartwood spear : The Smoking Mirror (Aztec Myth) and it would do the same as the spear in the Prism Pentad novels.

I was already thinking about getting Tectuktitlay on the move before the PC, because he's a bloodthirsty sorcerer king in a violent and bloodthirsty society.

Thanks for the advice

As has been mentioned, getting to Tectuktitlay will be difficult. For this job, I recommend a Crossbow Rogue or a Bow Ranger (Hunter's Quarry will be difficult to apply to him, though, as it goes for the nearest foe). The feat that allows you to attack at long range without penalty (Far Shot?) would be imperative, as well as some kind of cover (take the feat Hidden Sniper).
Now, I realize that there's a good chance that out of a large assortment of classes, there's not much chance of these two in this party. But do you have an elf? Automatic proficiency with the Longbow. Spellcaster? I see your spells, and I raise you one Preserving Disintegrate. There's many options for attacking at range, and the only ones who will have any real trouble are melee fighters. Alas, many, many classes in the handbooks are just that.
As for opening up his defenses, there is the obvious choice of the Heartwood Spear, or, as you have mentioned, an equivalent. You may also find some kind of weakness or frailty if you dig deep into research about him. Perhaps there is a certain place where his powers are weakened, or maybe he knows far too little about preservation to be effective if lured outside the walls of his city.
