Inspiration...

So...we finally have the new 4e version of Dark Sun. Laughing

I managed to pick up my copies of the Campaign Guide, the Creature Catalogue and Marauders of the Dune Sea - purely for nostalgic reasons as I don't play anymore - I'm wondering if anyone has come to the same conclusion. First, has anyone else seen anything within the two books that they believe was directly inspired by something they raised within the forum? Page 48 in my case: the Rainbringer elemental priest theme. I started a thread a couple of years ago on elemental priests concerning one of my former pcs, a water cleric dubbed 'The Rainbringer' (not only that but its my name on the forum). So, has anyone else seen anything they think they've inspired.

Also, I believe that some of the spelling 'mistakes' I've seen throughout the new books have to be deliberate. For example, the long standing gender issue aside, 'Thanok-An'  p186 rather than 'Thakok-An'; 'Kemolak' p187 rather than 'Kemalok'. Are we dealing with an alternate version of DS?

Anyone else agree?

Also Fevik instead of Fevil. Those can easily be misspellings, otherwise there's no improvement that I can see in changing the names.

Hmmm...I thought they might be mis-spellings at first too - but I'm willing to give the writers the benefit of the doubt here.

I'm sure that most of them know the material as well those of us here on the forum that were seriously into the campaign back when it was originally published. When writing those sections of the campaign guide they would have definitely had access to the original write-ups. For example, in Fevil's case you'd have Slave Tribes open when writing about the Black Sand Raiders. I'm inclined to think the 'mistakes' are deliberate. Speculation of purpose aside, it has no bearing on the tone or style and I agree - definitely not a matter of improvement - simply an observation.

Regardless, good to see the campaign world resurrected for a new generation.
