| #3nimblegrundAug 08, 2010 3:25:52 | He was mid-transformation to boot, so that makes things a bit fuzzy, too, I think. |
| #4sariyelAug 08, 2010 6:00:44 | He was trying to jump past the entire process when he was killed. From Dragon Kings, p.11: "In game terms, Kalak tried to go from 21st-level to 30th-level dragon all at once. He failed." That implies that he was at the first step of transformation already (21st level). However, Dragon Kings also says that 21st level involves a major increase in bulk, and the Player's Book for Freedom says, "Kalak's ancient body is horribly wizened -- gaunt, emaciate, and puny." My guess would be that he planned the ritual to happen before he started to show any real outward signs of transformation. I don't know if the new campaign guide includes this detail, but something that comes through in the 2e material is that the sorcerer-kings hid their transformations from the world at large. Nibenay's real appearance, for instance, was known only to his innermost circle of templars, and is the real reason he disappeared from public life. |
