No natural armor, no skill modifiers, no real abilities other than the life path and some natural attacks. I like what the dragon articles did with giving the races psi points and an inherent power, giving some skill bonuses to the pterrm, but their pterran on the whole doesn't make sense to me either. Favored class barbarian and a hit to wisdom when in the material pterrans are described as thoughtful, and intuitively connected to nature. Barbarian does not seem fitting nor does the hit to wisdom. IIRC the campaign box gives bonus to str con and wis and a hit to cha. I can understand the hit to cha given the pterran reticence upon meeting new cultures, but their openness once they have trust seems to make a bonus to cha make sense as well. In all, I like the ability modifiers of the athas.org material better than the dragon material for this race. I like the skill and natural armor bonuses of the dragon material but I don't like the LA +2 which I assume mostly comes from such a high natural armor bonus and bonuses to str and con, so I was thinking of keeping the athas.org version of this race as LA +0 but adding:

Also, kinda copied from the dragon mag issue but with more choice and less power points: Inborn power (Ps): Gain 2 power points, and the ability to manifest one of the following psionic powers of your choosing (chosen at character creation): aura reading (athas.org - dark sun 3), call to mind, empathy, psychic tracking (athas.org - dark sun 3), vigor Dragon gave them burst, which made no sense to me -- I tried to select ones flavored along the description of the race. |
