Alrighty, like the title says, I need some help coming up with a Dark Sun plot. Just anything to get the ideas flowing. I know that I intend on starting them off at Tyr.

Any ideas would be helpful, just something to get the creative juices flowing.

Depends on what you feel up to doing. Most adventures in DS apparently start off with the players being hired or forced to do work for someone. Sometimes you find a group put into the gladiatorial arenas.

There is a power vacuum in Tyr, so many groups will be looking for lackeys... I mean partners in their plans.

I started off with my players unknowingly given a Veiled Alliance package, inside an artifact that can transfer defiled terrain(Imagine a vacuum cleaner, problem is that emptying it out releases defilement). The idea was that they would use it to gain favor with the BBEG(a disfigured Ssuran that's entire clan was destroyed by a Defiler).

I introduced my PC to the ancient history of the Gith.  They found an abandoned buried Gith temple where the walls depicted the Athas space.  There were fainter images of ancient “normal” Gith and their silvery craft.  I fixed it so if the PC’s thought of coping the star chart they could return it to the templars for further hooks.  The temple itself was inhabited by descendants of the crew and being taken over by Hejkin who found out about it.

The players will then work to recover relics for the templars while avoiding the Gith protectors/recovery teams.

One of the PC stated that the were searching for a misty mountain top they heard of in the village legends.  Another was an operative of Nibenay Templars

These were the main unique hooks perhaps you can see where this is going.

Low level?

- A Templar catches them doing something wrong, arrests them and sells them to a slavemaster. They must fight and survive the arena while waiting for forgiveness / finding a chance to escape.

- The Veiled Alliance hires them to perform a series of tasks which will help undermining the power of the Templars.

- There have been reports of attacks in nearby villages, and King Tithian sends the players to investigate (all his high-level servants are busy dealing with the whole "suceeding Kalak" thingy).

- During Kalak's death, a part of the city crumbles (earthquake, perhaps?) and reveals an entrance to Under-Tyr. Dungeon crawling time!

- Two merchant houses are having conflicts and the PCs are caught in the crossfire.

- The daughter of a wealthy noble patriarch has just gone missing! Thing is, this guy does not trust Tithian or the Templars, and decides to hire mercenaries (the PCs) to find her.

- They hear strange rumors about shady deals being held in the Elven Market. Should they investigate?

...

Plus, any of the Dungeon adventures, or even the one stated in the end of Dark Sun Campaign Setting. Most of them are very good.

Hope this has helped!

Those are great for sure.

Appropriately, Athas is perfect for a sandbox campaign.  You really just put the PC's down in it somewhere and if they do anything at all, it's going to cause some sort of conflict.

Take a drink out of the cistern? Well, too bad that gang of elves thinks it's THEIR water.

etc etc.

The  PC's inherited a small family merchant house, the house thats been in the family for almost a 100 years deals mostly in the poor sales of Brambleweed, natrually the characters want more for themselves and seek a new path.

But to get there they realize they must turn the small silt coast village of Cloud Ray into something investers, people, and merchants would want to move too.

The town has its share of problems, it has a single almost tapped out well, only 7 livable structures, experiences the worst silt storms around, and is also smack dab in the middle of a Cloud Ray breeding spot. (Hince the towns name)

But the spot has potential, its closest neighbor is Balic, if only they can set up a trade route , and that requires crossing a narrow part of the sea of silt regularly.

I won't repost my wall of text, but I dropped my hope-to-play-it-someday campaign framework into your similar thread in the DM forums.

Some random ideas...

-Players worked for Kalak when he was the only game in town.  Players all start out as wealthy nobles, templars and merchants.  Kalak dies, their homes are looted and they barely escape.  Now they have lots of enemies who are free to seek revenge.  They need to find an ally to stay alive.  Maybe Tithian will employ them to strike at the Alliance and others.

-Players are apostles of the True Prophet (one of the players) as he seeks to convert Tyr to a new god.  The Prophet seems to have the power of miracles.  What is the source of his power?  Do ancient ruins support his claim?  Is he being manipulated by a sorcerer-king seeking control of Tyr?

-A merchant House is trying to expand their business of selling water in small containers at exorbitant prices.  It is billed as 'fresh spring water' but tastes a bit muddy.  When the only well in the slums 'stops working' and the House is right there exploiting the situation, the players must venture into UnderTyr to discover what the House has done to the well.

I enjoy this one quite a bit, good idea, I would like to use it with my merchant based campaign, this shady house would make a great rival, hmmm what to call them?

House Vordon might be a good fit. Almost destroyed by the actions of Kalak, they now are looking for any way to restore their former glory.  The Dune Traders supplement is really great.. if you can find a copy definitely pick it up.

Found this info about Vordon with a Google search

Sure thing.. another thing to consider are deeper levels of intrigue for the party to discover as they reach higher levels.

Maybe the merchant house contracted one of the gangs of Tyr, such as the Toothcutters, to actually take care of the water operation in Under-Tyr.

In doing so, maybe whatever magic/psionics they used to sabotage the well had the unintended consequence of breaching the failing wards Kalak had placed on an ancient Yuan-Ti temple beneath Tyr.

Always fun to have things happening on several levels for the PCs to discover.
