| #1SphenoeidesFeb 12, 2015 0:53:09 | Hi guys, I'm a DM new to the hobby (to be more specific, new to the hobby of being a DM: played something of the 3.5th, skipped the 4th and just buyed all the three core manuals of the 5th) and in the proccess of creating my entire new campaign setting I was some kind of bored from the classical medieval/fantasy worlds.
I was looking to craft a world similar to the ones of the science-fiction fantasy literature, such as John Carter or Dune to name two, set in a desert land where people struggle to survive and where the power of the mind (being different from magic power) can rule over nature: tl;dr, I was looking for the Dark Sun setting even without knowing it's existence.
So, after an hour of googling, here I am with more questions than answers: where do I start? How do I learn the basic lore/setting/npc/rules of Athas? How can I fit them in the 5th edition environment?
Thanks and happy gaming |

Here is a post I did on this as far as the rules out there. http://community.wizards.com/comment/51768866#comment-51768866 The Second Edition books have a lot of information about the campaign setting. I recommend them. |
