My players have come into some money and want to buy a Tavern in the Dark Sun game. They have someone to manage the Tavern. How much would it cost for a Tavern?

The Tavern I have running in Balic, in my campaign, is run by a couple who paid protection to a Patrician. I don't know how profitable a bar might be considering the crowd it might attract. Yes you might have a crowd every night, but you have to deal with Templars arresting your patrons, patrons bar fighting, and the occasional murder. Especially if the bar is run as a Veiled Alliance safe house.

That's something the players will discover over time. How much did you pay to buy the Tavern?

Depends on who is selling it and for what reason.

I suggest also looking at the Wealth by Level Tabel, to give yourself a good frame of reference:

Nitty Gritty, for a group still in Heroic Tier:

  • Veiled Alliance run Tavern - The seller knows that there might be trouble coming and sells the bar at a high price say 1500gp, highly unreasonable, however if the players are a part of the Veiled Alliance they might be given the tavern or have it sold to them at half price 750gp. Buying said tavern will give you access to the Veiled Alliance whenever you want, and a secret passage allowing for members to escape detection.

  • Templar Bullied Tavern - The old owner sells it for very cheap, probably around 750gp, but can be haggled down to 500gp. The money will help him get away from this city to someplace nicer.(haha like there is one)

  • Noble Tavern - With the type of patrons that enter the bar, this place will have to be pretty expensive. 3000gp, or by calling in a favor to a sympathetic/corrupt noble family. The amount of revenue would probably be about 1.5x more profitable than a normal tavern as well as being a hot bed of information held by very few.

  • Trading House ties, Tavern - The trading house will deal with all your financial troubles, however the revenue of such a tavern is cut in half of what it would normally be.

Trying my hand at some math:

You can use the Strongholds article for a basis, and just make something up based on the options it gives you. Aside from that, check out the 3.5 book about Strongholds (which has a similar name I believe)

I think there's also another 4e article similar to ths Stronghold one, but I don't remember at the moment.

I do the Strongholds article for all buildings to give me a guide to price my buildings.

Thanks Guys. This will be good for the group to have a home base. It will also open up the chance to mess with their property and link in regular NPC's.

I'm sure the players can figure out what they will sell at the Tavern.

Hmmmm those numbers seem quit high, if ceramic is the Gold varient of other worlds 1500 CP would be the value   if it were 1500gp then that same value in another world would be 150,000 gold pieces.

One of my players wanted to purchase a tavern, so together we came up with the So-ut's Den.

It is a fancy tavern with a basic kitchen and basic bedroom (as described in the Stronghold Builder's Guidebook).

There are 40 seats, one cook, and three servants.

The cost was 10,700 cp.

Unfortunately, that campaign has stalled, to a painfully slow crawl. So, there has been little opportunity to incorporate it too much.
