PHYE - Focusing Strike

Jun 10, 2010 19:39:44 I am having a "discussion" with the DM about Phye's Focusing Strike. I believe that the saving throw is an interupt and that the ally can roll on my turn and thereby (if made) avoid taking any subsequent damage on his/her turn. Until I get a ruling about this I am not going to use it.

Please clarify. BTW, the player's handbook is no help on this.

Jun 10, 2010 19:52:48 I don't know if it's an actual "interrupt" but you are correct. Your ally makes a saving throw on your turn and if successful, the condition is removed and therefore, cannot affect the ally at the beginning of the ally's turn. Just like with Sacred Flame (Cleric at-will 1, phb1)

"Failed Saving Throw: Sometimes an effect changes as a target fails saving throws against it. The new effect, specified in a "Failed Saving Throw" entry, takes effect after the target fails a saving throw against the previous effect at the end of the target's turn. The effect doesn't change if the creature fails a saving throw against it at a time other than the end of its turn."

Jun 15, 2010 16:43:09 Thanks. I thought I was fairly well versed in the rules. This one slipped my attention. Luckily, I don't think it has evern come up in my games.

PHB3, page 215.

Jun 15, 2010 17:32:46 It's probably only in PHB3 you can find the piece of info, because it took that long for WotC to determine a clarification was needed and to wait for the appropriate medium to put it into to come around.
