I need more info on Primoridials and Ul-Athra. Where the older versions of the setting more detailed?

I am probably wrong on this but I don't remember ther "primordials" ever being mentioned in the 2e history. I figured that the primordials were just a 4e way to explain that the elemental magic was predominant.

I think the same thing goes with Ul-Athra. I think he's a 4e creation, as far as i know.

Beyond the DSCS, there is no additional info on Athasian Primordials or Ul-Aratha as far as I know.  None of this stuff existed back in old 2ed Dark Sun.

Depending on which components of the different editions you include, Primordials could be the vaguely referenced powerful elementals that grant clerics their spells. Not normal primordial behavior to grant spells, but Ubtao does it in the FR setting.

As Terminus Vortexa points out, in 2E there were mentions of tremendously powerful, nearly godlike elemental beings high in the hierarchy of the elemental planes.  Those...sound like primordials to me.  Thus, in 4E, those ARE primordials, at least stat-wise, in my campaign.  Mechanically.

Story-line wise, there is no connection to the Dawn War in my campaign.  These metaphysical elemental beings have always been around, and are simply a part of Athas' reality.

Although Ul-Athra is the most infamous of Athas' Primordials, there seems to be at least two others mentioned in the campaign guide.

Kol-Tukulg of the Fiery Tread, who dwells in a volcano that shares his name, deep in the forest ridge. He is trapped by ancient primal wards, which have weakened in recent years, and so when the mountain rumbles and fumes, nearby halfling tribes make the trek to the caldera to throw in live sacrifices to the terible elemental creature.

Herumar the sand scorge, who looks like a 7 headed hydra of collossal proportions, and is served by a cult of vicious elemental worshipers, deep within the endless sand dunes. He is known for his breath which gives rise to sandstorms.

Excellent. Arc story idea : Elemental primordials are the keys to artefacts that reverses the defiling of Athas. Characters must seeks out the primordials in their prisons and steal or bargain for the 4 elemental artefacts [wind, fire, water, earth].

Found a nice 'Ul Athra' looking symbol.  Its supposed to be a many-headed hydra/snake thing.

Cool. Is it ancient greek or just inspired by it?
It would be great to have one sigil per primordial.

I like the idea of trying to unlock or bring together the power of the primordials to reverse the affects on Athas. My snake Ul Athra was banished to one of the moons and that is why Yu Tin are found coming out of what is a moon gate in the desert. There will be a reference to this in the marauders game when I run it.

Cool. Tell us more when it is done. My next DS game is in two weeks. They are in the middle of Marauders. I'll drop hints of primordial lore during the game. Probably in the shape of large mosaics in some of the rooms.

In my campaing players have alreday suceeded in recovering the "Crow of Dust". While escaping the Face in the Stone they have been ambushed and enslaved by Surana, a Urik Templar who is trying to gather the remanescent parts of the artifact so she can give it to Hamanu, the king of the world, and then become his wife!
