The orb resembled a huge sapphire, with shining blue facets and an azure fire burning deep in its heart. It was the sun, but not the sun he knew' It sounds like Rajaat didn't change the color of the sun itself, he encapsulated it in some type of magical/psionic spell/construct, that acted like a PRISM, changing the color and nature of the sun's light, but not actually changing the sun itself. kind of like a stained glass lampshade. Why else would the sun look faceted, and lit from inside? Also, since this was observed from the ground perspective, looking up at the sun, what's to say the sun was completely encapsulated, not just fitted with a type of arcane lens Rajaat materialized in orbit? Positioned correctly, nobody could tell the difference, and the effect on the spectrum reaching the planet would be the same. The latter method would probably be much cheaper in terms of spellcasting resources than encapsulating the whole sun. |
| #2redkingJan 22, 2009 7:24:22 | from 'the Cerulean Storm' In my opinion, it was simply Rajaat bending reality in a localized area. Yes, he did not change the sun, but in the "blue lands", for all intents and purposes, the sun really was changed. Probably the sun really would have changed, had he cleansed Athas and returned it to the blue age. One could argue that changing the sun, at least in the localized area, was essential to start the new blue age. The present sun would not be able to sustain the lifeforms (including the living rock used by the halflings) of the blue age, therefore Rajaat needed to, at a minimum, at least simulate the blue sun. Thus it was not just vanity turning the sun blue around Ur-Draxa, but a practical part of beginning the blue age. |
