Hi, my name is flip. I'm a member of the athas.org overcouncil, and am responsible for the technical aspects of the site. I've been a Dark Sun enthusiast since the early days, and once maintained the FAQ of the dark sun mailing list. I've been with athas.org since the beginning, and helped to run the project to develop the core rules for DS3 and 3.5.
At the moment, most of what I'm working on is for the technical backend of the community, including The Arena (http://arena.athas.org) and a as-yet unreleased site for hopefully posting new 4e designed bits o' crunch.
I live in Northern VA, and am currently without a steady gaming group.

I was also a designer and Senator for athas.org for several years, until I retired in late 2006. My largest project was Terrors of Athas, but I had a hand in most other releases as well up until my retirement (and a few afterwards as well, lol…)
These days I run a homebrew 3e game (just switched over to the excellent Pathfinder rules) on alternate Fridays and play/run in another group that meets every Tuesday, where we play all manner of stuff (Dark Sun is up next, but we have recently also played Call of Cthulhu, Traveller, Primetime Adventures and various other strangeness.)
I’m a full-time housefather for three young kids (I used to work at the war crimes tribunal in the Hague before that) who keep me busy 24/7 and whom I am indoctrinating into the wonders of gaming. My eldest boy plays a ranger called Aragorn, my daughter plays a silver dragon called Pink Strawberry, and my youngest boy doesn’t play at all yet, being only 20 months old, but likes to roll the fluffy d20 around and fart a lot. A bit like his dad, really…

Use the 20 month old as a prop. Dire baby of doom or monkey companion for Druid or Ranger.
An aussie here – just returned home from working for 3 1/2 years in Asia (Singapore, China, Thailand). Played Darksun since the late 90’s. Had an enforced break whilst in Asia, but happily with my old gaming group back home on a weekly basis.
Used to contribute a fair bit of ahem constructive critism via the old forums, helped make a silt-race for a project a while back and also outlined an alternative to the Divine Ranks for the SK’s on Athas.
Have almost the entire 2nd edition collection in hard-copy, and have really enjoyed Athas.org’s work except the Defiling syystem, which is OK because it’s not their fault that ‘balance’ is such a pole up the butt of WOTC ;)
Looking forward to seeing the mega-cool advanced undead that had powers similar to the SK’s unleashed in-line with the original text.
That’s about it. In real life, in the middle of a career change away from Academia into a totally unrelated field – Law. Got married in 2007. That’s about it.
The old gaming group has windled to 3 players but thats OK as one of the best games we ever had was 2nd ed with 2 players. Currently playing a hybrid 3.5/pathfinder game that isn't Darksun.
Sort of have my own Darksun camapaign I've designed set in FY 1015 and I'm working on a 10 level beta playest of a 4th ed Psion that I more or less have completed and are just tidying up. Also do a little 3.5 stuff by request or when I get bored as I spent 8 years or so playing 3rd ed.

Also trying to be a nicer poster as I probably annoyed a few Athas.org people by being to negative so I'm trying to be a more constructive person in general. Never had an issue with product Athas.org put out just some of the things like Dragon rules. Beside they will be able to dump on some of my mechanics soon s fair is fair.
For the benefit of the international audience; New Zealand is populated by sheep and idiots that happen to play rugby well every year except when it's a world cup when they choke and become total whingers. Nearly at 1/4 of their population live on an awesome land-mass to the west of the cloudy isles as there are no jobs in Kiwi-land except for ones involving sheep, playing rugby, or combining both
They decided - foolishly - not to join the wonderful commonwealth that is now the mighty land called Australia, and instead go on their own way; but like all good families, the Kiwi's and Aussies had fought side by side off the rugby pitch in a number of conflicts, shed blood, drunk beer and generally enjoy each others companies except when (a) it involves rugby or (b) it involves the dole cheque collection by kiwi's on thursday's in Australia.
If Australia was a role-playing world, it would it would be Athas. If New Zealand was a role-playing world it would be a panzy cross between the moonshae islands and sheep-hearders from cyber-punk crossed with monopoly! :D :D :D

We're outnumbered 5-1 for chrisakes, by ratio we're doing allright when it comes to rugby. Dole day in in Aussie huh. I hear we're keeping the Aussie economy going and the only reason we go over there is because Aussie keep employing us as you're to lazy n useless urselves:P
(note Aussies and NZer's can keep this up all day long but if an American or Pommie sticks his 2 cents in we turn on them- team ANZAC and all that).
We also never had the Cleansing Wars here and Ozzie is starting to resemble Athas in parts.

We have the same jokes over here, just the other way around. The Maori got a treaty hre in 1840, the last massacre of the Aborigines was in 1932 Alice Springs IIRC.

Gotta say, over the last decade i've seen a change: you'd never had heard an aussie barack for the yarpies in the 90's, but nowdays in a pub you'll find a substantial part of the crowd gunning for the yarpies. dunno why.

The treaty was signed 1840 but there were wars later. The date may have been 1928 not 100% sure. I'm form Dunedin, good night that rugby game. Awesome atmosphere in town that night. Awesome game and I hate Rugby (I was very drunk that night).

So, if you don't like rugby, what do you like in the form of sport? sheep hurling? ;) i'm partial to surfing and sailing, hiking as well.

Sheep hurling is good. I don't play sport but I cycle everywhere and my job is physical. Lack of exercise isn't a problem. Phoenix we're getting there.

I hail from England and currently reside in New Jersey (if that is not anticlimactic I really don't know what is.) I've been into DS since the original boxed set came out when I was 13. I work five days a week and play in two biweekly games, one of which I run as a DS Cleansing War Timeline.
I've still got a couple of spots open in my game, so if anyone is in the NNJ area and are looking you can PM me and talk.
I have no publishing experience but I wrote a 72 pge doc on my last campaign setting and I know it impressed my players........yeah I know not saying much.......30 something beer swilling role players are tough not to impress with laminate...........
Anyway, I've been developing rules for 4e DS, and falling on my face to the amusement of my gaming group. Beyond that.....well that is just personal.

I'm in california, america. It sucks but the beaches are filled with hotties and theres plenty of people to throw things at. I got my start in 1e greyhawk (homebrewed version) when I was about 6 yrs old. upgraded to 2e and then 3.5. 4e can rot for all I care. I'm not buying another edition for a long, long time. I'v been a member on these boards for a while now but my first two accounts are dead due to emails I no longer have.
I ask lots of questions and type out really long posts no one reads.

Ok ok, I think I might have the oldest (maybe athas.org older?) darksun web site that is STILL online! And I used (and still have) to have the HUGIEST darksun links section of all time. Thanks
:D I'm a 35 year old daddy (have a 4 years old little girl but would have more if we would have lost 3 before their birth), own a barn with 20 horses, am a mathematic teacher and I started playing RPG late (around 18).
My first setting was DS ! And it's probably why I am hooked that much to it. In the last 17 years, I have been playing numerous setting such as Forgotten Realms, Darksun, Eberron, Cthulhu, Mutants and Mastermind, Stargate, BattleStar Galactica and a few bizarres things. I am a big fan of board games*.
I've been around here since the beginning and I was here in the time of the mailing list. I have never been a member of Athas.org, but used to be more active in earlier time. I'm so old in here that usually peoples think I'm a retired member or something like that!?

True story.
Fast forward, and I'm living in Maryland just outside of DC with a wife, one kid and another on the way. I was never willing to put the work into running the high-level DS game I wanted to run with 3/3.5, but I'm hoping that some solid 4E rules for DS will come out and I'll finally be able to.
I'm an old timer around the DS community. I've been a lurker for the past few years though.
4e has sucked the enthusiasm for gaming right out of me so I'll likely be a lurker for a while longer.
Haven't played DS in a while though, but I like to keep up with the arguments and ideas. I think 4e offers a lot of interesting design space for DS-related concepts. At some point I may even write some of them down.
