Anyone out there running DarkSun without the metal rarity?  Just curious as to how doing so affects the theme, setting and flavor.

I'm considering removing it in my game, just to aim at a more "sword and sandles" Conan/300 style of play.  The intense burning heat of the land would still prevent metal armors from being worn, let alone crafted (who would buy 'em, heh, heh?) but it would allow from the thematic imagry and feel you get from those sword and standle style adventures.

Any more issues this would cause in the setting?

I've never done it, but honestly I don't think it would change that much.  Just some world fluff, that's all.

if you use the reckless breakage rules, this could change thing up a bit. also, it would be less necessary to implement the innate bonuses (or whatever they're called).

If you want to get into the nitty gritty you might have to put in a few mines on the map. Since as far as I know the largest mine is Tyr's and it does not output a lot, and is constantly under attack.

As far as fluff goes its not really necessary, though it does help give the feel that your in a post apocalyptic setting.

Or add in Warforged as a breeding race, and metal is "harvested" by culling the herd ;)

.... have I ever mentioned that I really dislike Warforged as a race?

Well, I want to stay too close to the REAL setting of Darksun. I've never remove the metal rarity and never will. Example : You want to play Warhammer 40000 with Jedi? Why not play StarWars then? Sorry, I am just not really flexible when it comes to add things to a setting from another. But that's just me.

Not really what's being done here.  Last time I checked, there were no jedi in Warhammer 40K but I could be wrong.

Yeah, its more like taking a tree from another country and putting it in another. So take a larche put it into America, its just a tree a different tree but still a tree. Its not going to look that much out of place.

Its all just flavor.
