| #1HarbringerOfNokApr 26, 2011 13:57:28 | New to posting here... and I am looking for a hand. I understand that many people are not running campaigns with the full events of the prism pentad having been concluded. However, I am looking for advice or information on how to build Sadira with the current rule sets of 4e. I do not believe she is any variation of an elemental priest as i saw suggested in another post. Her powers (I believe) are arcane in nature. With the new mechanics to defiling, what might the mechanics for someone who's primary power source is arcane magic by way of the sun? |

| #3claytoniantombApr 26, 2011 18:21:42 | You want to make a PC? An NPC? |
| #4HarbringerOfNokApr 26, 2011 22:03:40 | NPC in theory. But I am interested in both. The mechanics if achievable are what interest me. |
| #5angelus_obscuraApr 26, 2011 22:57:42 | As a PC, I would say she was a human who was transformed into a sunsoul genasi with the radiant one epic destiny. As NPC, she would just be a custom made "monster". |
| #6HarbringerOfNokApr 27, 2011 14:39:07 | As a PC, I would say she was a human who was transformed into a sunsoul genasi with the radiant one epic destiny. I see where you are going with that, but it really doesn't fit. Her body and powers were greatly increased during the day; the ability to draw magic from the Sun itself increased the potency of her spells... penetrating spell resistances and increasing the affect. The lore, description and powers of a genasai do not really fit this mold... |
| #7AcrilosApr 28, 2011 6:15:19 | During the day, you could make Sadira's spells more potent by adding INT modifier to attack rolls and damage rolls (or just damage rolls). You could also double the range of her spells and increase the bursts and blasts sizes. |
| #8HarbringerOfNokApr 28, 2011 10:15:46 | I get bogged down with specific mechanics - to my detriment I feel at times. So you propose that during the day her stats increase or simply add modifiers for INT? She had access to more potent spells (novels), should she also act as a higher level during the day or does this get overly cumbersome? |
| #9AcrilosApr 28, 2011 11:23:26 | I'm not sure what you're looking for exactly. We know she was able to defeat a sorceress queen with her sun powers. Does that mean that she was higher level than her or that her magic was more potent? You could also rule that her spells during the day auto-hit her enemies, so no need to make attack rolls. You could multiply tha targets of her spells. For example add INT modifier targets for spells targeting a specific number of enemies. Expand the areas of bursts and blasts (said in previous post). But I wonder what will happen if she truly become that powerful. Won't she unbalance the fragile balance of powers on Athas. I mean, if she's built so that she's unbeatable, what will happen then? Of course, her enemies can still try to defeat her during the night, since she would only be a "classic" wizard then. |
| #10HarbringerOfNokApr 28, 2011 11:38:24 | I definately appreciate the suggestions. Both Rikus and Sadira were/are importantNPCs on Athas - at least in the campaigns I have ran in the past. I do not want to overpower Sadira... and in fact she was not responsible for the defeat of Abalache-Re, the scourge of Rkard broke and the essence of Rajaat escaped to pull her into the Black (if memory serves me correctly). I do not believe she was quite a match for an SK if memory serves. However, she was extremely powerful. I like the idea of expanding bursts/blasts. I was hoping to build her by giving her some inherent and homebrewed powers and feats reflecting her daytime change. Her AC, and saves, STR, spell damage, spell penetration, attack bonus... nearly everything increases during the day. She has access to higher level spells and has limited access to the black. Not sure how to put all of that together and get it nice and fleshed out. Appreciate the continued help. |
| #11khorne37Apr 28, 2011 13:01:05 | The real question is do you ever plan on having the PC's fight her. If not then you do not have to solidify her stats most of it can be done through RP and if combat is involved you can say what she does on the fly. |
| #12HarbringerOfNokApr 28, 2011 13:02:49 | Fight her, possibly along side her depending on them, could potentially kill her off as well. |
| #13khorne37Apr 28, 2011 14:09:16 | I was actually going to kill off a most of the major NPC's I think Tithian is going to arrange an ambush for Rikus when he takes out the crimson legion to fight Urik and then the SK's are going to team up on Sadira and off her. I am going to keep around Agis though and Tithian and see how things play out. |
| #14AlphastreamApr 28, 2011 18:36:26 | You might try not really providing stats for her. Give her defenses and write up 2-3 powers. Don't do more than that in one session. Go for simple but colorful powers that reflect what she does in the books. As time passes, give her a few new ones. And, have some of them really be through her cane (if she still has it). Detailing an NPC too closely can be troublesome because it traps us DMs into playing by rules... when really these NPCs are mostly story. They die and do things based on story, not mechanics/statistics. |
| #15tindalosihoundMay 01, 2011 10:18:46 | On the subject of this so called "Sun Wizard", I feel a bit of illumination is in order. To quote the Cerulean Storm: "She had waves of amber hair spilling over her shoulders, and her skin was as dark as ebony. Her eyes had no pupils and glowed like blue embers, while wisps of black shadow slipped from between her lips whenever she exhaled." Her skin is dark, her breath is shadow, her body is cold. She can summon creatures of shadow. Obviously Sadira is getting her power from the Black, which makes sense, given she was transformed into a Sun Wizard by Shadow Giants, beings from the shadow. And the name makes sense, given that the Black itself gains substance from the shadows cast by the sun. In an area of absolute darkness, it has no ability to manifest. Therefore Sadira is probably some nature of Gloompact Warlock, although an Epic Level one. |
| #16HarbringerOfNokMay 02, 2011 9:40:07 | When Rikus talks to Umbra on this, there is reference to the sun empowering the shadow giants, as what is shadow with out light? In fact... if i remember correctly, isn't this how Umbra died? Lack of light? |
