Shadow Shifter question

Sep 24, 2008 3:43:36 In the legends of athas, the shadow shifter npc is describes as being a 3rd stage shadow shifter. But as I looked through it more I could not find any rules on the different stages or how to determine a stage.

So my question is, how are stages determined, what changes occur at each stage (physical appearance changes from flesh to shadow) What benefits are gained at each stage? How many stages are there total?

Is a shadow shifter limited to the number of different forms he can take depending on what stage he is in? for exsamples a stage 3 can have 3 forms total including his original or 3 addition forms on top of his original form?

Also, the easiest question to ask is, is it like the dragon/avangion stages, level 1 shadow shifter is stage 1, level 10 shadow shifter is stage 10?

[edit] Looking at it yet again I see the npc is stage 3, yet he's level 6 in the prc, so I guess its not broken into 10 stages. My best guess would be broken into every 2 levels is a stage evolution? Giving a level 10 prc 5 stages of evolution into a true shadow being? And would this shadow being be made of actual shadow or from the energies of the black? Or is the black's "energy" "shadow" and they are just one and the same and I missed it.

It says Beta on it, so if it every gets revised, I think it would be nice to get alittle more attention on the shadow shifter, maybe include some info on how the stages work, what exactly a shadow shapers body is made of (be it shadow or energy from the black). Thanks.

Sep 24, 2008 8:04:46 Like the dragon and avangion PrCs, the shadow shifter gives 10 levels. In addition, a number of epic spells - 10 in total - allow the user to change it's physical form along the shadow shifter path in ten increments (the PrC, on the other hand, is only there to increase the character's power).

Sep 24, 2008 8:15:37 Will there ever be a pdf explaining each stage? Because the prc doesn't list anything on the stages of the transformation. I'm writing up a shadow shifter and really don't know how to include or explain the stages or to visualize the changes.

Unless you have an old version of the pdf for Legends of Athas, it should be there under the epic spells section. Download the pdf here.

[edit] I found it. it was in the spell section, thats why I missed it. Thanks. Great stuff, only has 5 transformations which is neat, and I like the descriptions how the physical changes. Nice!
