| #1SarlaxSep 22, 2010 23:17:57 | This just occured to me: What if the crystal of which shardminds are composed is salt? Thinking of the common desire to make shardminds not exempt from the need to consume survival days (even though, strictly speaking, they aren't by RAW, since SDs represent more than food and water), I came up with the idea that shardminds, as salt creatures, leach moisture from the environment to survive. Their very presence drains water from their surroundings. Their consumption of survival days might represent simply large quanities of water, or perhaps the additional supplies that their companions need to survive the passive liquid drain the create. In other words, a shardmind's mul companion is being supernaturally dehydrated, beyond the heat, and so needs more water than normal. |

| #4FlashbackJonSep 23, 2010 15:44:05 | Pretty decent reasoning, actually. So as to not completely trivialize their racial benefit, consider decreasing the cost or increasing the "duration" of survival days. If this becomes annoying to track, maybe a +2 racial bonus to Fortitude against Sun Sickness.Punishing players to allow a non-fitting race to a campaign for the sake of stats? Assumption not stated by the OP. Poor form. |
