The only potential problem arises when you try to fit them in as a major race. Bizarre monsters in infinite diversity fill the wastes of Athas, some of them even unique beings. A good way to introduce old favorites to the players in DS is to not use the names of the monsters - don't say "gnoll", say "beastial canine headed new race spawn", or some such. |

An excerpt: A people known as the marru once lived and warred in the world, but their civilization has long since passed into the waste, devastated and destroyed by internecine wars of terrible magnitude. As a result of these so-called Flesh Wars, the marru turned to a little-understood art called spawncraft, and in so doing created living weapons to wage their battles. Now if you change Flesh Wars to Cleansing Wars and Spawncraft to Life-shape, viola you have a new Dark Sun species in a can. The process has become un-replicatable due to the Marru being destroyed sometime later (by one of their own creations). Using the image of the Marruspawn and looking at an image of a gnoll the resemblance is very close. My thoughts are the now extinct Marru and Gnolls were one in the same. Destroyed not by a Champion, but their own hand – some thing Rajaat may have even foresaw, hence no champion. |
