I have always pronounced it like "mule", as that is a reference to a sterile, yet strong beast of burden made by crossbreeding horses and donkeys. And an Athasian Mul is a sterile, yet strong race (frequently slaves, or "beasts of burden" if you will) made by crossbreeding Humans with Dwarves. Seems to make sense to me.
Then again, I will alternate between "Pea-can", "Peh-can," or "Peh-kahn" depending on whether it's just a nut, a bunch of nuts, a cookie, a candy, or a pie. I'm a southerner that loves Chinese food and Mexican food, raised by a mother with a degree in English and a babysitter that spoke Gullah, and most of the television I watch is either mostly British casts or stars either Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren, or Keanu Reeves. Pronounce whatever you want however you want to.

But once I (french-speaking) went to Nathan's (NytCrawlr) house in the US, where we met up with Corey (Mach2.5) also from the US, and pronounciations came up in the conversation and you wouldn't believe the differences. It was amazing.

however, I always saw "drow" as "Thr ow ", "droh", me being Scot's it's long on the "rrr" hehe. officially itis "drow as in cow" which I hate so I stick to "droh"

I pronounce it like "mule", I always have. That's how the original creators of Dark Sun pronounced it. It was at one time the official pronunciation.

This is what I was wondering too. I too, think it should be an "ool" sound, but is it m-yool (like mule) or just mool (like tool [unless you prounounce it as ty-ool {in which case, you probably have bigger problems to deal with}])?
Yeah, That's basically how I say it. Sounds like tool, like toolbelt. Mool.
I've been calling them mules for 19 years, it'll be interesting to see what they say officially.

This just proves how stupid our english spelling is. (enuf is enuf, enough is too much!)

Here in NoVA (Northern Virginia), everyone I game with pronounces "Mul" as if it rhymed with "Cool".
I disagree it should rhyme with "Dull" when pronounced. It lacks the second L and thus wouldn't have any emphasis at the end of the word. All the emphasis would be on the vowel.

I don't think anyone in this thread has gone with the pronunciation I had settled on; 'mool' with the 'oo' of 'book' rather than of 'fool'. Mul as rhyming with 'pull'. That way it's not homonymous with extant words 'mull' or 'mule' and is thus more easily distinguished as a word. Besides, I like the sound/feel of the word a lot more my way, and it feels more exotic/characteristic if it doesn't sound like a word which already exists.
