So, I read a few snippets about the setting when the press release went out and it really sparked my curiosity. Can anyone suggest some good sources to read to get familiar with the setting? I presume it's mostly old 2e books, but if there are any in particular I can look out for them on eBay or my LGS.

RPGnowused to have some of the PDFs but I'm not sure igf you can still buy them. Ebay would be your best bet. Recommend the original boxed set for an interesting read.

The Dark Sun novels are not Pulitzer Prize winners but I think they give you a good 'feel' for Athas.

Dark Sun 2nd Edition books are as follow:

The best is Veiled Alliance who describe each city a lot and the secret arcane society.

Dune Trader for more info on the Trade Houses and their villages surrounding the cities.
Gladiator Handbook describe each city arena.
Slave Tribes some villages and slaves in general.
The Will and the Way, the psionic academies in each city.

2 good racials books:
Elves of Athas, include elves tribes.
Thri-Kreen of Athas, the Kreen Empire.

After that you have regional books, in order of useful stuffs:
City-state of Tyr
The Ivory Triangle (Gulg and Nibenay)
Valley of Dust & Fire
City by the Silt Sea
Windriders of the Jagged Cliffs
Mindlords of the Last Sea

Too outdate for my taste are:
Dragon Kings (maybe inspiration for Epic Destinies)
Earth, Air, Fire & Water (divine power source who have/will change a lot)

Every thing else is adventures.

Um... no.

The domain has expired. Athas.org isn't currently active.

But... there are plenty of other sites.

announcement. It is an excellent site to learn about Dark Sun.

Athas.org is still up, it's probably just experiencing higher-than-normal traffic, what with the Announcement and all...
