About the tarrasque: I think it was created by the primordials since it is elemental origin. In Dark Sun the primordials won so I think the tarrasque is probably still alive somewhere. Would be cool if the tarrasque and Dragon of Tyr fought.

Feb 03, 2011 16:23:36 It'd be fun to watch from our perspective, but the Dragon of Tyr would win due to superior tactics, speed (2 squares faster, acts 3 times a round instead of once), and ranged attacks. The main advantage that the Tarrasque has is some more HP, and the Earthgrounding ability. The Tarrasque is, however, a dumb animal compared to the Dragon.

If you want one you can put it in; you're the DM.

But the only plot line I can think of where a Tarrasque makes sense is for the PCs to unleash it on a city-state as a diversion - it WILL draw the entire army out to kill/banish it - while they try to personally assassinate the sorcerer-king.

(Smart PCs might beat up the army first so the sorcerer-king in question HAS to come out himself to fight the tarrasque, then unload on him.)

Note that this tactic will only work once; the other sorcerer-kings won't be drawn out and will instruct their army accordingly.

Feb 21, 2011 11:41:38 I've always likened the Tarrasque to real world apocalypse myths, such as Ragnorak's Jörmungandr (aka World Serpent, Midgard Serpent). It's waking heralds the end of the current "age" unless bound back into its sleep.

For Dark Sun, instead of keeping the Tarrasque within Athas, have it be the moon Ral. It was originally on Athas until either the halflings of the Blue Age, Rajaat in the Green, or Borys in the Red hurled it into space and orbit the planet forever. Being a creature of great mass and density, it would have attracted dust, meteorites, comets and other detritus, all of which eventually encased the sleeping giant in a living tomb. Hell, maybe the halflings used their life-shaping to create the moon to bind the Tarrasque using the special cora they build with. It is a living organism that draws nourishment from beast itself, keeping it in a torpid state with little to no energy.

Even the name "Ral" could be some hint to the sleeping terror within.

Another option is to use Guthay as its prison as well, with the Tarrasque forever haunting its jungles like the Smoke Beast of the Lost island. haha

I always thought it was a bit like the Tarrasque.
