A lot of the old adventures and even some of the newer ones have the characters either A) being slaves at some point or B)working for money, etc.  How would this work with a Templar PC?

How afraid of templars are people if the Templar is far away from their city-state?

I want to try and run bloodsand arena, but I have a Templar PC.  The party is headed toward ALtaruk soon and I wanted to think of a way to get it  in their.

If I were a templar I would be afraid of the outside wourld. Far away from your half giant protectors. No other Templars to back you up. Out in the world Templars are fair game and I bet people would be looking to settle scores.

It needn't be an issue at all.

Templars usually hold some degree of authority in their native city-state.  Out in the barren wastes however they're just someone else needing to survive, and in other city-states, they're effectively foreign agents, acting with another sorcerer-king's interests.  If anything, most templars will want to keep a low profile when in city-states that aren't their own, unless they're there in an official capacity, and with a small legion of half-giant bodyguards.  If discovered and/or captured by templars of the visited city-state, there's nothing to prevent their being sold into captivity just like any other poor wretch ... after having their mind's reamed for information, that is.

Also, even in their native city-states, templars aren't necessarily figures of the standing bureaucracy.  Most city-states operate a templarate, an actual group of templars in a formal hierarchy that over see the running of the city-state ... but many templars operate above and beyond this.  Each templar has their own beliefs, their own tenets for doing their sorcerer-king's work, and furthering their goals.  Sometimes these lay outside the actual templarate, and can even be aligned against it.  So it's not unheard of for the formal templarate to employ a group to perform a service for it, one member of whom is secretly a templar themselves, operating outside the formal templarate.  As long as that templar has their own, defined goals, they're still working for their sorcerer-king's ends.

Hmmm, I'm totally with you on the undercover Templars.  The templar I have in the party is not undercover, she's a proponent that Nibenay is the king of everything and nothing is outside his grasp.  I guess maybe she just needs a beat down to show her she's not in Nibenay anymore.

Templars as players I think are hard to do right. For one thinking of why they are there ( other than a spy thing) and the other is they would have an agenda that is appropriate to fit in with a group. Other players are always going to watch the templar and do right by him before anyone else. After all once he returns to his normal job they will want to have friends in higher places.
I don't know...I just discourage it unless they are spying or something sneaky.
