The Dark Sun Character Sheets

Here are some of my observations/ questions from reading the Dark Sun Character Sheets wizards released.

I like the Wilder Theme.  Hopefully there is a variety of Wilder Theme attack powers so not every Wilder has to have the same one.
But both gladiators have the same Gladiator theme attack power.  I hope this does not mean that there is not a variety in the theme attack powers.

The Mul’s racial power is:

Tireless: As long as you slept at least 6 hours in the last 72 hours, you gain full benefit from an extended rest.

I assume this means the muls does not have to rest during that time, but must still wait 24 hours before he regains all of this dailies and healing surges.  Not sure how useful this power will be, since the rest of the party will have to rest forcing the mul to as well.  Maybe he can stand guard while the party sleeps.

I have seen someone work out the thri-kreen racial adjustments from the character sheet.  Has anyone tried to work out the mul's?  I am guessing +2 to strength and constitution, but not sure about the rest.

The thri-kreen attack power gives a bonus to the damage based on the number of targets.  I would think the opposite would be true.  Less targets more claws can go into the same target.

The elemental priest theme attack power is interesting, but brings up a lot of questions.  The power described fits the earth elemental cleric.  Are there different ones for the other 3 elements?  This power seems very specific to the shaman class, could druids or wardens take the elemental priest theme as well?  Do they have different elemental priest themes?

No mention of the elf run.  I wonder if it will be some sort of feat.

Or he doesnt have to sleep those 6 hours continuously like other races.  As soon as he gets a total of 6 hours slept within a 72 hour period, he benefit of gets extended rest

I don't really know if they need an "elf run" feat or ability. As it is elves are quite a bit faster than regular medium sized characters. They have move 7 instead of move 6, and they ignore difficult terrain when they shift. Considering the fact that running only adds 2 squares of speed, that is a pretty hefty bonus to the elf's speed as is. In 4e, pretty much all elves are fast runners...

I see it more as maybe an Endurance check for Elves to slip into the running trance so they can go hours without the effects of running long-distance that way.

It was announced in a seminar the the Mul adjustments are
+2 CON; choice of +2 STR or +2 WIS.

The Thrikreens were worked out by someone (reverse engineering the point buy) as +2 DEX, +2 WIS

With the Elves, I was thinking of giving all Athasian elves the Long Distance Runner Martial Practice

As for Mul, I think the tireless thing is purely a fluff mechanic, I can't see it working in any meaningful way. Hopefully their other racial abilities make up for this.

I'm still hoping we see monster entries for Tarek, Pterran and mabye (doubt it) Aarakocra.

yes, Xlorep
That was what I was thinking but with a bonus, say +2, to the Endurance check.

Interesting about the mul.  They could make good barbarians, or battleminds.  Even shamans.

I wonder if the thri-kreen has an option as well.  +2 Dex, +2 Wis or +2 ?? Con maybe?

I think that's the point since DS is going to be emphasizing the Primal and Psionic power sources. It just makes sense to balance your races toward those power sources.

Yeah, this is referring to the D&D XP character sheets. The Half Giant (Goliath) Fighter, Mul Barbarian, Thrikreen Shaman, Human Wizard, and Elf Battlemind.

Hmm, it seems they got rid of the mul's tireless ability (which I didn't like in the first place), and replaced it with Incredible Toughness. Overall, I think I like the new encounter power better.

The elf is described as "slender and short". I guess that means elves in general aren't taking on the tall and swift qualities they had in 2nd/3rd edition.

I would guess that each theme comes with a few options to choose from. This makes them very expandable (such as with future DDI articles).

I am eager to look at the feat possibilities. It would be really easy to have feats for each race that mirror a lot of the old powers. Poisonous bite and weapon training and jumping for Thri-Kreen, running for Elves, etc.

Hahaha...

All the original races in Dark Sun were parodies of their traditional high fantasy equivalents: Halflings were cannabals, Dwarves were hairless, Elves were tall and dishonorable, etc...

I guess making them short doesn't make a huge difference... it's all fluff anyways. I just want to re-imagine "longstrider" elves coasting over the dune sands. Otherwise they're just desert elves...

Where on the character sheets does it say "ALL ELVES ARE SHORT"...?  It just says that elf is short.  And he's a city elf, so he's not exactly your typically elf.  The human ardent is described as small, so obviously all humans are now small creatures, right?

Guns are for shooting, not jumping.

I realized this after making my post. Yes, maybe the Elf is short with respect to other Elves - which would still make him tall? Maybe that's the interpretation. However, the interpretation I got was that he was short... like high-fantasy elf short (but not tiny or squat, like hobbit or dwarves).
