The Future (regardless of 4e)

I began composing a big old post earlier today (incomplete) about finding a way to look at DS in 4e differently, essentially 'staging' its accessibility for both 'casuals' and 'core' players, waffling on about accessibility versus exclusivity.
I'm still in two minds about it because it seems on one hand I'm simply suggesting a PHB and DMG for DS versus my original intention which was essentially a way of (easily) playing either a hard/core or easy/casual mode within the one campaign world / history regardless of resources.
(Obviously the question's something I'm still working on).

Either way its led me to wonder about the future.
While all fans (especially the hardcore, of which I think it's pretty clear many of us are) want the best of what we like perfected, evolution is very much a foundation of the setting.

Just for the sake of argument assume that things do have to change, that a 'remake of the classic just for fans' isn't on the cards; That Rajaat, from the heart of the Cerulean Storm is the chief motivator - how would you craft the future, what would you try to achieve?

Battlestar Galactica is set in the future of the 80s series...yet is a reinvention of the series light years ahead of its predecessor and many current tv series as well. They didn't win all those awards for nothing. Besides the crew of Lost, they're the most sought after group of actors on tv.

If that kind of reinvention can be pulled off for DS, I'll be in rpg heaven.
