Thinking about starting a Dark Sun campaign.  Where does the current timeline in the 4e Campaign Setting Book start?  After Pentad series?  In other words, which novels lead up where the 4e setting begins?

4E Dark Sun is base right after "Verdant Passage" and before "Crimson Legion". It means you can read first volume to know, what has happened in Tyr but the rest of story is up tpo you. If you like decimating Sorcerer-Kings, you can play along novel's timeline. If you don't feel free to ignore them.

Me, for example, set y games about eighty years before "Verdant Passage" (even before first, original boxed set)

That was a big flaw of 2e...the original boxed set was set before Verdant Passage, so had all this information about Tyr that became worthless once Kalak was assassinated; the revised edition took place after all the novels, so most of the well-characterized sorcerer-kings were dead. I think post-Verdant Passage pre-Crimson Legion is an excellent choice for 4e's timeframe. My game has already begun to diverge away from the events in CL.

I like to set the game a couple or more years before Verdant Passage.
Current campaign will start fifteen years before Free Year 1.
