I liked Tyr-Storms. How would you scavenge the concept in a pre-Cerulean Storm campaign, or in an outright retcon campaign in which the Storm will never appear?

Maybe...Athas in the current Age has always had Tyr-Storms, but like it was mentioned in another thread people have learned to fear their coming since they are agents of extreme destruction. A product of the deranged environment and weather.

A new name might be needed, or perhaps the name is related to the name of the region, the Tyr Region?

Oh, and the Great Ash Storm ought to generate spinoff mini-storms too, for fun!

I really like the idea of spin-offs of the Great Ash Storm.  It could even be a way that the Dragon collected his levy before, and now that Tyr has overthrow Kalak and the numbers are uncertain, they simply ravage the wastes, looking for any stray caravan or herd or tribe to drain of life energy.

i can envision massive dust storms and sand storms rolling across the deserts.  with massive dust-devils the size of class 5 tornados lashing out like scouring tendrils of grit and debris demolishing everything.

I'll probably have them in there, somehow. Maybe there is a rip into the Elemental Chaos, and these storms come through it, unleashing all kinds of fury.

An epic destiny for a primal hero. Think of it not so much as the damnation of a character, but more as an evolution to elemental guardian of the land status. Or, it could be as simple as a reawakened ancient primal spirit. A very powerful one.

If you want to keep the exact elemental flavor of them, without making them into ash storms or sand storms or similar etc. (which are already described as existing and being one of the dangers faced by travelers in the Wanderer's Journal) then it could be a sudden unexpected phenomena around which you can wrap an adventure. Someone powerful hires you to find the source of this new disturbance, and perhaps it is an elemental rift opened by a mad druid or water priest, or the meddling of a distant Sorcerer-King.

If the wrath of the primordials is only held back by the primal spirits themselves, that seems like a formula for massive elemental happenings.

Perhaps defiling has weakened the wall between Athas and the planes.  The primordials breach the wall, and the storms that wrack the Tablelands are the primal spirits battling to seal it.

Athas always has been basically an elemental battleground. In DS1, it was the elements opposing each other, in DS2, it became elements vs paraelements (earth, air, fire, water vs sun, silt, and magma, with rain seemingly on the side of the elements because it really, really is in bad shape). In DS4, I could see it as a place the primordials are still assaulting, and yeah, the primal spirits are fighting them off the best they could. Athas has a brutal sun, open tears in the land with magma in them (with the Jagged Cliff Region map, and a number of fan-made maps add to that idea), it has a huge expanse of volcanic glass poured out over the land (the deadlands, from the revised/DS2 map), the huge bodies of water are now filled with silt, etc.

The idea that the primordials occasionally rip through and unleash the fury of a Tyr Storm, to me, would be awesome. The fury behind them would be tied to the primordials now, and it could be exactly as the Tyr Storms are depicted in DS2.
