Oct 28, 2010 7:40:47 Reference to Merchant Houses and Veiled Alliance are scattered through the setting manual... I'd like a more rationally organized and easy-to-find source of info... something like

TYR:
Notable Houses: A. B. C. (main representative names... relationships with other houses, campaign book page.

Notable Alliance Members:....

Does something similar exist?

The VA book is probably the single most valuable sourcebook, as it reviews each city-state (including cultural angles) and does far more than just talk about the VA. For an understanding of Merchant Houses, Dune Trader is a must have. There are some good web sites with similar info as well.

Oct 28, 2010 14:43:22 Apologies for being a little off-topic here, but I'm having trouble finding the same information, but about noble houses in Tyr.

Flicked through all my old 2E source material last night -- so happy I didn't trash it all years ago -- but I can only find the odd secondary reference to a few noble houses in Tyr. Anyone care to point me to a good source of noble house lore ..?

Oct 28, 2010 19:21:58 Fromost, The 2E supplements Road to Urik (2406) and City State of Tyr (2420) are the primary two sources I can think of that have the most information about Tyr and its denizens, specifically. If you want anything cannon that is more specific than that, I'm afraid you may be out of luck.

(This I'm not as positive about, though, but I'm sure Alpha will confirm sooner rather than later)

Oct 28, 2010 20:58:36 City-State of Tyr, for obvious reasons, Veiled Alliance's section on Tyr, Dune Trader's section on House Vordon, Denning's various Prism Pentad novels, and - incredibly - Hawke's first Tribe of One novel. All are good sources for hard info, or (for the novels) accurate scenes of Tyrian life and politics.

Nov 14, 2010 23:50:05 I like the City State of Tyr for information, I bought it at the store with my 4th edition stuff and a couple people thought I was an idiot.

I have to say though I like the information I got in the 2nd edition, the stat blocks are unnecessary but they're few and far between. It also goes very indepth about the Tyr mines.

I suggest just skimming the books and mark down the Noble House names. A few times when a house is mentioned in the 4th Edition books the head of house is mentioned right next to it.

Off the top of my head, the houses of Tyr are in conflict with the Houses of Urik(sp?). The mines have to be defended from constant threat of take overs.

Looking through chapter 5 there are at least 11 merchant houses. 12 if you include the House of Lirr. If you have the DS:CS check out the descriptions for every city. Tyr has about 6 house descriptions.
