It's between the Warlock character and some emprisonned, diminished, far away, or long dead yet with some of its energy remaining behind, entity.

What would those entities be? I'm looking for new ideas, not the usual stock answers like Rajaat or Shadow Giants. Stuff akin to the Vestige examples found in Arcane Power and various DDI articles.

A long dead champion.
The first slain avangion.
The "lifeforce or spirit" of the pristine tower and/or the darklens (forming pacts with sentient locales and/or thinking artifacts).
A Primal Spirit corrupted by defiling magic (sunwarped spirit).
A founding member of the veiled alliance, long since dead.
A deadlord.
Qwith.

Few ideas for ya. I still think a warbringer pact warlock would be F'ing awesome.

awesome idea, I was already planning to have 3 pacts in my game that I am starting this week for my players (the black, SK's, and the grey... the cerulean storm does not exist yet/if ever in my game so that pact is not there yet.) and vestige pact will really fit awesome.  (I am still debating on the fey)

Though I am already seeing one change I am doing from official rules, I am not allowing defiling for warlocks.  As I am having the pact be where they draw their power from...  So templars (sk pact) are granted arcane power instead of elemental. (which I thought was always a little odd.)

So since the power source is different for warlocks they cannot defile since they are not draining plant life.

SK pact - granted arcane power from the SK (makes the gardens they have even more ness.)
The Black pact - draining from the shadowfell (actually the shadow of the sun) the path taught by the Shadowgiants (dark pact changing poison to cold)
The Grey pact - necromancy at its worst, using the soul energy of the grey to power spells.
Cerulean Storm pact - not bloody likely in my game, but granted power of the storm itself
And Vestige pact - drawing in the left over power of the great forces that are gone... the carrion eaters of the magic world.

The Great Ash Storm might make a vestige pact in replacement of the Cerulean Storm. It's malign force is threatening to swallow the world, after all...

Or if you want to go against the grain, it could be an ancient god imprisoned by primordials in the untold ages ago.

A storm of souls, that died suddenly in a great battle They are trapped in zone of ancient defiling magic and psychically reach out to gain leverage and one day end their imprisonment.

In a non-elemental way, how about Sun/Solar/Cosmic pact.

Ooh, good question!

My suggestion: Tiny leaks of the Astral Plane seeping through Athas' otherwise entirely opaque and impenetrable separation from the rest of the cosmos. Like, "holes" through which the power of full-fledged gods are incapable of passing.

Beej_silver already mentioned Kalak, but there were other SKs, and they probably wouldn't fade into the gray all that easily.

Sacha of Arala, Curse of Kobolds
Myron of Yorum, Troll Scorcher
Sielba, Destroyer of Pterrans
Wyan of Bodach, Pixie Blight
Daskinor, Goblin Death
Kalid-Ma, Tari Killer (trapped in Ravenloft)

Maybe new vestige powers could be written based on the races they wiped out?  Either derived (so a Warlock with a pact with Sacha could shift a lot), or meant to counter (a pact with Myron would allow one to deal with damage reduction and regeneration).

Maybe the gnome from the commercials.  Rar.

EDIT: Oops.  Assumed since he wasn't one of the seven, he was dead.

If you add in the cities of the north (Kurn and Eldaarich), then Daskinor isn't dead. Insane, yes. Dead, no. Keltis also is alive and well, but... doing new, and interesting things.

Maybe Daskinor went cuckoo because he found out that the latest DS module has goblins in it. Tongue out

I mentioned kalak specifically because it seems to make sense if warlocks of Tyr still retained their magic, but it somehow looks different from the other warlocks with SK pacts ever since Kalak fell. it would make for an interesting plot hook, at any rate.
