| #2mgbeachFeb 03, 2011 18:12:11 | according to the Dune Traders supplement it is "a silver jozhal on a blue field." |
| #3Cyber-DaveFeb 03, 2011 18:36:42 | What is a jozhal? |
| #4mgbeachFeb 03, 2011 18:39:45 | ![]() "Standing about four feet tall, the jozhal is a small, two-legged reptile with a skinny tail, a long flexible neck, and a narrow, elongated snout. Its mouth is filled with needle sharp teeth, and its lanky arms end in small, three-fingered hands with an opposable thumb. Although the lozhals hide is covered with scales, they are so small as to be unnoticeable at first, and it appears to more akin to a mans skin or a baazrags rough hide. The jozhal can change the hue of its skin at will, either to match the color of its environment, or to stand out against it." AD&D 2nd Edition Dark Sun Boxed Set |

| #7mgbeachFeb 09, 2011 15:48:17 | Was looking around the web and randomly found this great blog post about a piece of Brom artwork that the poster had never seen before. I also had never seen it, and don't think it was ever published. Still having the Jozhal in mind, I realized that this might very well be Brom's take on it. I think it does a lot better job of depicting the creature as a highly intelligent psionic powerhouse. www.geneome.com/2011/01/26/new-old-brom-... ![]() |
| #8fromost_the_grimm_02Feb 09, 2011 16:05:52 | Hmmn ... I recall jozhals as small, animalistic lizards, whereas that fellow looks wholly more sentient, what with some degree of clothing, and bearing implements. I'd say it was one of the original drays, or a nikaal maybe. |
| #9mgbeachFeb 09, 2011 16:14:38 | You know, I think you're right. I had missed the fact that jozhals were 4' tall and specifically didn't posess armor or weapons. Reading is a good skill.. I really should use it more ![]() Still.. great image though, ain't it? Don't recall ever seeing it. |
| #10fromost_the_grimm_02Feb 09, 2011 16:40:07 | ... hellz yeah. I don't think 2E Dark Sun would have been what it was without Brom's artwork. He captured the feel of under-clad and over-buffed ex-slaves wanting to beat on something repeatedly with sharpened bone sticks just *so* well. Although I can't ever recall Brom's take on a towering 2E half-giant at all ... |
| #11mgbeachFeb 09, 2011 18:36:16 | me either, but his giant picture in the box set was memorable for me.. i.imgur.com/5tGZN.png |
