| #1krosszer0Sep 03, 2010 9:39:54 | So I'm preparing for my Dark Sun campaign, with the Campaign Setting, the Creature Catalog, the three original core books, and DMG2. I'm wondering what other books you guys think would get a lot of use in a DS campaign. I looked through the product catalog thinking about this. My players definitely need PHB2 and 3 (that's for them to decide though). The Draconomicons, Manual of the Planes, and other Planar books seem almost useless for an average DS campaign. Dungeon Delve seems like a solid investment for any busy DM. I was mostly wondering about the other 2 Monster Manuals, Open Grave, and the Demonomicon. Do the MMs have enough DS ready or easily altered creatures to be worth it? Do you think the material in Open Grave and the Demonomicon has a lot of potential to see use in a DS campaign? I know undead are plenty in Athas, but they're different, and I don't know how prevelant demons are at all besides knowing that Athas, at least by the new cosmology, is still connected to their home plane. And, looking ahead, does anyone think the upcoming Shadowfell book stands a chance to be a good resource for adventures related to, or in, the Gray? Thanks for any input! |

That covers the PHB2 and 3 classes/races for your players, and the monster builder is nice for you. For hard books, I'd get the monster manuals, 3 before 2, if you need to. Pretty much all 4e monsters are easily altered, but MM3 monsters are a bit beefier than MM1+2, and the creature catalog for dark sun has things to help you alter them. I don't know about demons and the demonomicon(I don't have that one, either) but Open Grave is an awesome sourcebook, imo. If you want to put a lot of undead in your game, it's gonna be worth having around, both for new undead listed inside and general musings on how they act and how to use them. |
