After two years of my players enjoying every possible magical convenience, I'm ready to throw them into raw survivalmode. To that end, I'm reading up on Dark Sun. Thing is, I want to read about a couple of very specific topics. Could anyone tell me what book(s) contain info on.. * the Order, specifically their ploy to use the Psionatrix? * the Dead Lands and their creator, Qwith? * how and why Orionis decided to become an Avangion? Thanks! |

After two years of my players enjoying every possible magical convenience, I'm ready to throw them into raw survivalmode. To that end, I'm reading up on Dark Sun. Thing is, I want to read about a couple of very specific topics. Could anyone tell me what book(s) contain info on.. Primary source for this is the adventure Dragon's Crown. There is also a small amount of info on the Order in The Will and the Way. * the Dead Lands and their creator, Qwith? This is harder to come by. You should check out Terrors of the Dead Lands from athas.org. Although it is a "monster manual" for the Dead Lands, it is heavy on background details and would allow you to piece together a good idea of what happened with the Dead Lands. The best source, however, would be Secrets of the Dead Lands. This was a product planned for release in the later 2e-era, but it was never published (although some prelimiary version did make it into circulation). Athas.org took custodianship of the project, but I'm not 100% sure of its current status. Sorry that I can't be of more assistance in that regard. * how and why Orionis decided to become an Avangion? Check out the Expanded Campaign Setting (aka the 2nd Dark Sun boxed core set). It has plenty of info on Oronis under the section detailing his city Kurn. Defilers and Preservers lso covers him briefly. Thanks! You're welcome! |

I suggest choosing with care the setting's bits you present your PCs, and you'll really get a survival-based campaign. Jon the Orcale says he runs such campaigns, so you might drop him an email for cues: jon@athas.org Welcome and good luck! |
