Why is the DS Campaign Setting OOP?

Anyone have any idea why the DSCS is out of print?  My FLGS is trying to get copies, but even Amazon is out of stock now, and selling used copies for $40.

What's the deal with this?  I've found threads elsewhere online saying that Alliance game distributors dropped this product sometime last October, barely after it was out.  Regardless, Wizards seems to be doing a good job in Dungeon and Dragon supporting the setting.  This is extremely confusing.  What gives?

They probably haven't put in for another print run yet. Probably diidn't expect it to sell out so quickly while they were focused on other books. I'm sure it'll be back in a month or two.

It's $99 on the US site and £104 on the UK amazon site!

Come on wizards, re-print please!

Barnes and Noble always seem to have at least one copy, I've been to at least four that have it.

Did we ever get an answer as to why it's out of print?  I can finally buy it now and the only thing on Amazon is for $72+!

Do they accept American money (being a Canadian online bookstore and all)?

Yes, you can still find it online. You will probably always be able to find it online. The internet is good for that and has pretty much killed collecting because of it.

The real question is this: Why are the Dark Sun books out of print? I have heard very recently that they are still listed as out of print for shops trying to order them. WotC probably just haven't done a second printing yet but it's been a while now. People not being able to get the book will allow interest to wane some and increase piracy. Both of these are a problem.

Regretfully I doubt anyone in the publishing department at WotC will read this, and they are probably unaware of the shortage.

This was discussed at some length in another thread in June -- community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...

Scroll down to post #16 for my response there. The pertinent portion is

Also, some older books DO go out of print and don’t get reprinted. If the publisher did a good job predicting consumer demand, then after some period of time, just about everyone who wants a copy probably has one and that book is taken out of print. After the last copies trickle out, it’s not likely that more will be printed unless backorders indicate that there’s a lot of unmet demand. Core books that everyone needs aren’t likely to go out of print, but something likeDungeon Delve does.

I've seen quite a few people that want it and can't find it, though. I hope it gets at least another small run.

I guess the demand was underestimated.

If some of you canadian gamers still want it... it seems to have dropped price on Amazon.ca. In the used section, you can get it from an American reseller for around 43$ (including shipping). It's still at least 10 bucks higher than what amazon was selling it... BUT it's 50 buck cheaper than last weeks used books reseller prices Money mouth

I noticed that someone in the Marketplace group is willing to sell the DS books for 50% off of MSRP.
