One thing I would really like to see in the monster book for Dark Sun is the stats for the Dragon of Tyr and Dregoth. I would also love to see stats for the Sorceror Kings and for Rajaat (Rajaat is mostly just a curiosity). Are there any other extremely powrful beings you all want to see the stats for? Perhaps some of the mind lords (I will admit, I dont know alot about the mind lords).

While I'm just making an assumption here - I would say that there deffinately will be stats for all these if not in the "core" books, then at least in some of the suplements.

I believe there will be stats for the SK's, as they already previewed Nibenay for DDI people. The Dragon may also be statted, and Dregoth is a possibility as well. I'd be surprised if Rajaat got statted out, but it would be a pleasant surprise. I doubt the Mind Lords would be, as I think the Last Sea (and Lost Cities) are out for the new version of DS (as would be the Rhul-Thaun community I'd imagine).

When you say that they are "out" do you mean they have been wholey removed from the lore or that they simply wont be covered in the campaign guide? I hope they didn't remove the Last Sea entirely because I have only just begun to read about it and it sounds freaking awesome. I cannot imagine after players fighting through six months worth of sessions the astonishment they would feel in game to come upon the legnedary Last Sea.

All the sorcerer-kings will be in the Creature Catalog, but whether WotC includes Dregoth in there...

Dregoth does exist in 4e, though. Been confirmed as the originator of the Drays.

I believe the Dragon is in there, too. That will be a blast to read, considering his damage-dealing potential will be way up there, since he's a product of the MM3 era.

According to "City by the Silt Sea" Dregoth was always the creator of the Drays (2 different generations actually, a mutant generation that he banned from his realm and a second generation of "perfect" drays).

I agree, the Dragon of Tyr will probably have some unfathomable damage output. I can't wait to see his superheated-sand breath weapon in the new edition.

2e says one thing about Dregoth and Drays, 4e might have said otherwise. What I said is they confirmed a link is there, and is the same as in 2e.

Sorry Pennarin, I misunderstood your comment as stating that Dregoth was not the originator of the drays in AD&D.

Anybody can retcon the last Sea for 4e, and it has tremendous potential to be a terrific addition to Dark Sun (compaired to the lukewarm add-on it was to 2e):
- a place of green (well, maybe just yellow grass), with salt water
- a people from another time, yet twisted by the harshness of their society
- surviving lizardmen
- a society that could proudly call Star Trek TOS home (despotic, mad lords living inside subterranean orbs)
- a giant barrier of enslaved minds, some having failed, letting people through

Gotta love it! It's the rest, though, that's not too good, like the psionic-powered desalinization plant, the forested high elves, the storm giants (wtf?), people taking in the sun at the local beach, surfers, ...

Retcon the s**t out and you got a rich, healthy, nightmarish society that's not that better than a regular poor, sickened, normal Tyr Region society, but which offers lots of roleplay opportunities.

When I say they are "out", I mean that they most likely will not be supported, mentioned, or referenced at all by official products. They existed post DS2, and WotC seems to be rolling back to DS1 lore when it comes to the new DS4.

Mind you, I fully intend on using the Lost Cities region and the Last Sea, plus other details from the extended map. I just mean that odds are good that they won't exist in the official DS4 setting.

My favorite part of Returning to Athas, Part 1, emphasis mine:
We wanted people approaching the 4th Edition Dark Sun books to get the same sense of magic that we all got when opening that 1991 boxed set, and then to go on to tell stories with themselves as the stars.

That all said, there are plenty of neat things from those later products that were just too interesting to pass up. I’m looking at you, Dregoth. So, we did some cherry-picking of things to add to our version of the setting.

Dregoth is fun, to be sure. Oronis and Daskinor are also very interesting to have added, but I still think it is unlikely, as it would mean really extending the map up a bit, but who knows, maybe they'll have the Tyr Region and Jagged Cliffs Region maps together as one, to provide a bigger picture for Athas... maybe not. They are extending the distances a bit, from what I can remember...

Again, Dregoth is included in 4e, but whether they include him in the Creature Catalog is what I wrote about ;)

Thanks for sharing that quote ascottbay. It gives me some hope that we will see some fully supported material that lies outside the Tyr region. This is one of the few realms I have ever gotten really into the lore of. The world of Athas just absolutely pulls me in and gets my mind wandering in a million different directions when I read about it.
