| #1RO3Apr 13, 2015 14:39:49 | Heya all!
I asked a DM recently and scanned here, but couldn't find the answer (but did find the search engine is bad on this site thread).
What is the procedure for adding ritual spells to my book of tomes?
Simialrly, If I am a wizard, how do I add spells to my book?
Is it a downtime day per level or was that a reccomended thing? Can we simply trade spells with players we come across? Does it affect the book at all?
Thanks! |

Players can share spells with each other, because there is no rule prohibiting them from doing so. I believe Greg Marks has said that scribing spells was intended to be a downtime option but that it didn't make it into this seasons rules additions. The 'procedure' is deliberately left vague because it should essentially be a function of time + gold = scribed spell. Could be special inks, could be special bug parts, a Geometer might have to do some complex sigil work etc...that is all fluff.
There is some disagreement on whether or not a freshly made warlock tome would include spells that you spent time scribing into it. RAI they should probably not be punished, but RAW is a lot less clear.
Personally, I think AL dropped a steamy corn-filled deuce on wizards by not offering a way to purchase spells. I played a wizard from chapter 2 through 6 in ToD including a couple expeditions and found exactly 0 spell scrolls. This season I guess they really want all the wizards to be Zhentarim. |

There is an FAQ on the website:

| #4RavixApr 14, 2015 0:31:48 | Scribing is indeed a downtime action with a cost of 8 hours = 1 day. |
| #5Byakugan01Apr 14, 2015 0:48:25 | Ravix, where is that printed?
It isnt in the PHB, or DMG, and i couldnt find it in the season 2 players guide or players companion. |
| #6QwertyAzertyApr 14, 2015 6:24:56 | Even if I play a bard this season, I'm collecting all the spellbook we found, and when a new wizard join in I allow them to borrow my spellbooks, and copy the spell during short rest and during long rest (elf are great for that, scribing 4 hours per long rest) and if we can get an official confirmation that we can use downtime, futur wizard sitting at my table will be more then happy. |

Bookmark that page, it is updated frequently whenever a new ruling/clarification comes out |
| #11UndrhilApr 14, 2015 21:18:51 | When a PC Wizard shares his spellbook with another player Wizard, how should that be tracked? I woudn't want a DM to decide that they didn't actually believe any such sharing took place and remove spells from a PC Wizard's spellbook. |

| #14KalaniApr 15, 2015 8:18:11 | Thanks for finding those, but I have already added a list of proposed changes to the FAQ based on obsolete (season 1) rulings (I went through the entire FAQ looking for any errors). Once I get approval for those changes, I will update the FAQ and replace the erroneous text with the current rulings. |
