Is this an oversight or on purpose? |

The monstrosity keyword is applied to all new mm monsters that seem like beasts, even ones that were natural beasts in 4e.

(The biggest exception appears to be the unicorn, which is a celestial and has rules for being run as a legendary creature.)

Of course, that might just be the Ranger Variant I've been hearing. As well, look in the back of the book, because there are a lot of new 'Beast' creatures back after the actual creatures, but before the NPCs. In truth, I surprised a DM on Saturday when my Druid (Drow Druid, Circle of the Land <Underdark>) had turned into a Giant Wolf Spider and scouted the room that held our biggest threat and got out with a decent set of stealth rolls that were aided by the fact that the enemy was looking for Medium-sized creatures on the ground and the ceiling was 40' tall. I even got into another spot I wouldn't have if I were on the ground, because nobody was looking up and the party was the distraction to draw more attention out of the objective area (naming them as such to keep from spoiling). Giant Lizard is /also/ a great choice that I used to my advantage on guard drakes (due to their training to not attack other beasts of burden the Kobolds use). So, there are plenty of options for people whether they take the Circle of the Land or Circle of the Moon, or just happen to be a Ranger who took Beast Master. |
