I've been playing the adventures set so far and really enjoy it. This has been an absolutely fantastic season.

Currently we do have one issue, the bad rolls.

We have a dwarf, he refuses to stay alive. Every time this guy gets to level 3 he dies. Even after the free faction spell to bring him back.

We get to the 3rd level stuff and he always makes bad rolls and gets murdered. Is there anyway he as a returning level 1 come back quickly for a level 4/5 adventure? I don't want to leave him behind in our group or upset the veteran players.

The XP gap between 3 and 4 is large enough that he can easily reach level 3 before the other characters reach level 4.

As soon as your group hits 5 though, he will have problems as a 1-4 cant play on the same table as a 5. You may need to perform some dm magic to get him to 5.

Question: Does he keep remaking the same dwarf over and over again and keep dying? Sounds like he only has one character concept. Time to shake things up!

I have a character in my LMOP game who is like that. He is playing a Drow Sorcerer who while pretty competant in Combat... does the craziest stuff outta it. Like go off by yourself, annoy every npc you meet level of crazy. He spent half of last session terrorising a halfling family of farmers because he wanted to buy a pig (yup no idea. He just wanted one. It bites him and keeps attempting to run away)

Humm

It's a double edged sword indeed. Basically he likes to play the dwarfs. He's really new but he isn't a bad player either. He tried cleric first.

All was fine until he was over powered. Failed every roll after. So he tried a warlock. Don't ask why, but he did. Same cycle. I really don't want him to get behind. There's two main gms running it, but he has made it to every session.

Can he start at level 3 without penalty if he we jump to 5th for elements of evil? Or should we try to do a mini session and lower the numbers of mobs?

He can't start at level 3, no.

Why does he keep dying? This doesn't sound sensible to me. What exactly is he doing in the game that gets him killed?

Did he rebuild his dwarf character from a cleric to a warlock, or did he just start a new character?

Why does he keep making new characters?

in AL if you die your faction brings you back to life until level 5.

You can completely rebuild your character until you hit 5th level so you dont lose your XP. You just cant change your name.  You can change your race/classspells/backgrounds etc.

also...the players rolls should rarely kill themselves.  That is usually done by YOUR rolls against them.   If you are constantly exposing them to save-or-die effects then that is a DM issue.  If you beat him up and he has time to fail a death save then roll a 1 the following turn that is a party with crappy teamwork.

At level 3 it should be hard to instantly die from any single attack if you started out conscious. A wimpy wizard with +1 con would have 17 hitpoints, so you would have to hit him for 34 damage with a save spell for HIS roll to matter.

Not correct, Byakugan01, if you use your faction res you dont get any rewards from the session you just played (which includes EXP).

Faction Charity. If the character is of level 1 to 4 and
a member of a faction, the dead character’s body can
be returned to civilization and a patron from the faction
ensures that he or she receives a raise dead spell.
However, any character invoking this charity forfeits all
XP and rewards from that session (even those earned
prior to death during that session), and cannot replay
that episode or adventure with that character again.
Once a character reaches 5th level, this option is no
longer available.

thats taken from page 12 of the players guide.

So yes while the character comes back, he/she dosnt get ANY REWARDS from that session. Downtime, Renown or EXP. Which again puts them behind the 8 ball.
