AL's character creation rules state you are able to have a patron from the Forgotten Realms and Non-Human Diety lists.  Can a non-Cleric character choose a patron diety from the FR campaign setting that isn't listed in the Player's Handbook?  (In this case Ubtao)

Family were wealthy Moonsea merchants, sent an adventuresome (read: trouble causing) younger sibling to Chult in order to secure spice trade interests.  After time, he went native and married a local, but one of his children took a ship to the land of his father and found adventure there.

Wanted a place of origin for a 'savage' largely unfamiliar with the 'civilized' world.  First thought was Maztica but the status if that place post 4e is dubious so I went looking elsewhere.

I'd be prepared to change the deity if asked to by an AL DM.

As long as the character doesn't take any cleric levels, it should be OK (and if the character has the Acolyte background, I'd argue that option actually hurts you, since you'll likely never encounter a temple to Ubtao to be able to use your background feature).

My monk venerates Auppenser, the long-lost god of psionics.  (See also the Pre-Gen Character Repository thread; look up Erevyn Meliamne.)  This does NOTHING for him mechanically.  On purpose.  But it adds some interesting fluff, because ki potential may or may not have something to do with psionic abilities; scholars differ.

If Erevyn were to take a level of Cleric, his veneration still would do nothing for him - because Auppenser's portfolio (especially Balance and Mentalism) is not represented in the existing Domain options.  I don't expect to actually see anything for Auppenser in AL until 5e Psionics Handbook comes out - and maybe not even then: I expect AL to visit Athas for that Season or two...

I don't believe they will do a AL season that's not FR because that is where the money is at.  They may publish some material for a Dark Sun or Eborron but AL will I always be FR.

So, we may yet get the dreaded "Is Warforged a legal race for AL?" question after all.
