Awarding Renown in AL when using the Book Adventures - Downloaded from the Wizards Community, all coding removed by Solauren

#1 AggieBear Jul 27, 2015 11:28:19	Hey all, A few of my players have started asking some questions about renown. Their characters going through Expeditions are racking up renown points (and secret missions) left and right. However, characters that are going through the book adventures as part of Encounters seem to have almost NO renown points. I have scanned through HoD, RoT, and PotA and notice that there are almost no information on distributing renown points. Is there something that I am missing or are there just not many renown points coming out of Encounters?

DMs running such adventures earn XP, GP, and Downtime at the same time characters earn downtime and renown. Princes of the Apocalypse This adventure does not have clearly identified episodes. Each of the following counts as an episode Chapter 6: Completing the short quests (Into the Woods, Necromancers Cave, etc). Chapter 6: Completing the "Tomb of Moving Stones" Chapter 6: The Tier 2 Sidequests do not count as an Episode. Chapter 3: Each of the 4 Haunted Keeps counts as a single episode (4 total). Adventuring in the Dessarian Valley does not count as an episode Chapter 4: Each of the 4 Elemental Temples counts as a single episode (4 total). Chapter 5: Each of the 4 Elemental Fanes counts as a single episode, as does the Fane of the Eye (5 total). There are a total of 15 episodes in Princes of the Apocalypse, although players are only expected to complete 13-15 of them (11-13 if they skipped the Chapter 6 pre-adventure).

That is what I am trying to get at. Other than the piece that I have posted above about renown in PoA....is there anything posted about when renown is given for HotDQ and RoT? I don't see it in the FAQs either.

Adventures can last anywhere from one session to multiple sessions. An episode (sometimes also known as a chapter or part) is a single-session or multisession play experience that is part of a larger adventure. Episodes are often the foundation of for-sale adventure products such as Hoard of the Dragon Queen.
#9 Byakugan01 Jul 28, 2015 7:45:51	I gave my party downtime and renown after completing the Ice Shield Orcs quest...it took 2 sessions to complete, and it heavily implies there is a faction reward...since I couldn't find any references to downtime/renown in any of the chapter rewards, I made the decision at the time that it made sense that I had to add them, and it seemed appropriate. Especially since they are specifically saving people in several of the factions.
