Can I play the same character?

I’m a little unclear about this. Can I play the same character concurrently in Encounters and Expeditions? I’m planning on playing in the new season of Encounters starting tonight, and I will be playing in Expedition adventures at a local convention Labor Day weekend.

I think you can, so long as your character is within the allowed level range.  If you are playing the same character in Encounters and Expeditions you will likely outlevel one or the other though.  My guess is that Expeditions will give more XP since some of them have 4 hours listed for a timeslot.

It will never be truly concurrently, right. You are basically traveling back and forth between the experiences. Track each play session on the log sheet. Use the rules noted in the Players Guide and the guidance in the FAQ. For example, you could:

Play a session of the Starter Set. You gain some XP and gold. If the "Part" or Episode hasn't concluded, you can't spend downtime.

Play an Expeditions adventure. You gain XP and gold. You can spend downtime.

Continue with a session of the Starter Set. Gain XP and gold. If you conclude the Episode, you can spend downtime.

I played LFR for the past 5 years, so I'm familiar with the bouncing around aspect of Con play.

I'm starting Encounters tonight, playing next Wednesday (so two sessions - possibly reaching level 2) then at Con I'm playing Defiance in Phlan (which is for level 1-2 characters so I should be all right) and I'm also playing Secrets of Sokol Keep and Shadow on the Moonsea (which are for level 1-4 characters). So, again all right. Then the following Wednesday I'm going back to playing Encounters. I wasn't sure if I could do that, because in LFR, you could only import your character at the end of the Encounters season. Secondarily, as reddaemon mentioned, I might end up leveling my character out of Encounters. I'm not sure how much experience I'll earn playing those adventures at Con, but I'll certainly end up high second level, or maybe even into 3rd. I'm not sure if this season of Encounters runs levels 1-3 as in the past, but if it does, I may hit the upper limit before it's finished.

"~Welcome to Shadows over the Moonsea, a D&D

adventure, part of the official D&D

organized play system and the
Tyranny of Dragons TM
storyline season.
This adventure is designed for three to seven 1stlevel
characters, and is optimized for five 2nd level
characters. Characters outside this level range cannot
participate in this adventure."

seems this adventures are only for level 1 - 2... where are the level 4 adventures?

These are the suggested preset levels for the adventure. Each adventure in ddex1-1 through ddex1-9 are for levels 1-4. The adventure itself gives information within to make it more challenging for higher level characters or for larger sized parties. You don't adjust if you have 2nd level characters of sufficient number.

The wording is very misleading then...

Our adventures have tiers of play (1-4, 5-10, etc...) and then a level for which it is optimized. For example, DDEX1-3 is a tier 1-4, optimized for 2nd-level. This means any 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th-level PC could play it, but the combats assume/are balanced to 2nd-level. You can play a 1st, 3rd, or 4th-level PC but if enough players do so so that you are no longer averaging 2nd-level or there are more/less than 5 players, the DM will have to alter the adventure's challenges as detailed in the adventure.
