From what I understand, the version of the death domain detailed on the special cert given out as a reward previously is different than the version of the death domain listed in the DMG.  Which version is AL legal?

Yeah their L2 feature are noticeably different but DMG supercedes. For those who didn't see either the cert (which came out before the DMG) or the DMG entry, here are the texts;

Channel Divinity - Touch of Death: Starting at 2nd level, the cleric can use Channel Divinity to destroy another creature's life force by touch. When the cleric hits a creature with a melee attack, the cleric can use Channel Divinity to deal extra necrotic damage to the target. The damage equals 5 + twice his or her cleric level.

Channel Divinity - Death Touch: At 2nd level, you can use Channel Divinity to quash the life energy in another creature. When you hit with a melee attack, you can use Channel Divinity to attempt to strike that creature down. If the creature's current hit points are equal to or less than three times your cleric level, the creature drop to 0 hit points. Otherwise the creature takes necrotic damage equal to 3 times your cleric level.
