The AL states :

"A player cannot change a character’s name, but can rebuild the character using any other rules options available for that character’s story origin"

Does this include:

Race?

Class?

Ability Scores?

Thanks.

The only thing about your character that cannot be changed in between any play session is the name and the story origin.  Everything else can be changed.  Until that character (which is why the name cannot change) hits 5th level.

When you level up to 5, you are locked in to whatever your build is at that point.

You can change all of the following details about your character:

You can change

  • Race (and/or subrace)
  • Class(es)
  • Background
  • Skills
  • Feats/ABIs
  • Sex/gender/Identity
  • Faction (if you change factions, you lose any earned renown and start again with 0)
  • Starting gear (you must choose the gear package associated with your new 1st level class and/or background)*
  • Starting Lifestyle (it must match your new background).
  • Current Lifestyle (if same as starting lifestyle). If different, it must remain as is.

*The ALPG states otherwise, but it is a known copy/paste error.

You cannot change

  • Character Name
  • Story Origin
  • Current Lifestyle (if different from your starting lifestyle).
  • Log Entries: Earned Treasure, XP, DT, or Renown; Expenses/Purchases/Bribes; Favor/Enmity; etc.

It would follow logically that if you haven't spent any DT days at a given lifestyle, and you change your background during character rebuilding to a background that would give a different starting lifestyle, your starting lifestyle would change.

Otherwise it would simply be super confusing to remember to keep track of.
